Criterion Quantum sleeping bags - am I too tall ?

Post by fatbikerbill »

Hi all,

I am looking for a new 3+ sleeping bag system.

I am 185cm, 80kg , 6'1" in old money, weight , you'll have to work that out as I do not understand stone.

First question: Am I too too for the Criterion Quantum bags rated as max height 6'1" - on paper no, but you know what I mean !

The next question I know is much more subjective, but which bag ?
I'd be using a ExPed Synmat winter.
I also have a cumulus 150 quilt & not averse to sleeping in my duvet jacket.

My current options is a monster & ancient 5 season RAB bag.
After that I am on to an ancient & slightly sad Phd Minumus with the quilt & all the clothes I have.
I will continue with the minimus/quilt in summer.

So if not too tall I am thinking the Quantum 350 - https://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/ ... eping-bag/

I was also looking at the Phd minim 300 in Long - https://www.phdesigns.co.uk/minim-300-d ... -sale-2022
But would the Phd be too close to my minimus

I'm also 6'1" Bill, and 75kgs. I always felt I was a bit too tall for the Quantum 200 or 350 I used to have. I found I tended to stretch them a little bit, leading to cold spots. I tended to use the 350 unzipped, almost like a quilt in the end - I'm a side sleeper which didn't help. Fine in the Cumulus 150 and for colder nights I have a thermorest vesper quilt in extra long.

Busy surfing here,

Any thoughts on the sea to summit sp3 https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/spa ... eping-bag/

The one downside I see is the zip, lightweight and only 3/4

I use a 200 at 177cm and it fits me perfectly but I would not recommend it for someone as tall as you. I think you would be stretching it out too much - particularly with the hood up over your head.
