Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
Other than the eye wateringly expensive Rockgiest Gondola (which apparently isn't too stable) and the Revelate Vole and Shrew (which is only 2L).
Am thinking something that'll handle 4L of stuff but also not cost the same a farily expensive watch. Obviously it must look smart so I reckon the Ortlieb options are off. Maybe the Restrap 4L bag would work but I think that's the one I read of as being a bit unstable (sorry Rockgiest).

I think if I just needed 4L of capacity I'd use a bumbag or just my jersey pockets ... both of which can be had quite cheaply

Topeak DM mount for <£20 then use existing bag?
I think one issue limiting them is the lack of clearance to the rear tyre once dropped. Not an issue on my XL frames.

Apidura. But it's not very good. At least mine wasn't.
I now use a revelate terrapin. But add a piece of inner tube taped round the post. I lose about 70 to 75mm of drop.

True... but it's to increase that capacity a little Stu. My backpack will be used with it. 4L on the post just so hatit doesn't mess eith the dropper whic is getting old and is cable actuated..Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:31 am I think if I just needed 4L of capacity I'd use a bumbag or just my jersey pockets ... both of which can be had quite cheaply

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
Have had the restrap one for a couple of months now, first time I’ve used restrap and I’m not overly impressed. It has to be packed absolutely bang on otherwise it becomes very unstable and slides around a lot. Taking your jacket out of the bag and then stuffing it back in quickly and it’s becomes a problem.
When it’s fully packed out, its not stable, works much better when it’s half to 3/4 loaded. The buckle and strap the connects to the saddle rails is poor, hence using a voile strap as a back up! They’ve also stitched the strap into the loops of the bag, so I can pick where it sits either
Up sides to are it’s tough, looks neat and it actually fits into my tiny rear clearance s as I’m not the tallest of riders

Wrapping the post loses drop though. I get full drop with the DP mount.
If it's just to save scratching the post though - inner tube wrap.

DP mount works very well, good value and works well
Still have a clearance problem on a FS but fine hardtail or rigid

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
This is where the inner tube (well, Stans tubeless strip with a massive ziptie, shaved, keeping it together) is wrapped at the mo. The Evoc is stuper stable but only 1L if that...
Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
I don't think these are compatible with an externally routed reverb as the hydraulic hose would be in the way.
Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
Works fine, you just can't mount it all the way at the top like you can on an internal so you lose a bit of drop

For completeness really (because it's unlikely to be found any cheaper than the Gondola) Wayward Riders do one which I forget the name of, which is worth a look. Sometime soon I'll get round to making a knock off of that or the Gondola.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
The Gondola is expensive and the lead times for custom gear from Rockgeist is loooong. The bag is totally solid though, no sway at all in my experience.
The attachment is very simple indeed though, so I reckon you could convert any other small bag to work the same by sewing on an extra strap and buckles.
The instructions for attaching the Gondola are on line and give a good idea of how to add an extra strap.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
I've just been sent a large dropper post compatible seat pack to try out prior to full production by a popular UK brand.
Initial findings are fantastic, so hold on a bit longer...

Porcelain Rocket used to do one, I have one, can't remember the name. It's ok. Not great, not awful.
Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
I’ve got a small Gondola, only used once in anger but seems rock solid with zero sway, did slip down the seat rails onto the seat post though..

I’ve also got a Gondola and it’s excellent. No sway, and it’s easy to attach and fill.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
I have first hand info that one of the ultra-ers from this very constabulary (did I get it right - might definitely pass my citizenship test now ) is going into specialist bikepacking gear for us picky folks. He has a dripper specific post on the make as well as some sort of bar harness and/or bag. Don't know much more details as I don't like to prod too much but I have a feeling it's gonna be good. So might wait (or buy again when he has it out ).
Thanks for all the heads up on the Gondola everyone. Makes me wonder why everyone went for Gondola and not the Shrew by Revelate as they're both similar in size?
Another consideration I have (and always had and why I went off saddle packs in the firet place) is cos the dropper is a bit saggy once it gets heavier. Might be on its last legs (Brand X in possibly it's first iteration) and its been serviced and conditioned as much as I could be bothered with an upgraded OneUp lever (highly recommend upgrading the levers).

I've had a Brand X and the dropper on my Cube fatbike looks like the exact same post. Neither sag. TBH, given the weight of a person on it I can't see that the weight of a loaded saddle pack is going to make all that difference.redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 10:04 pm I have first hand info that one of the ultra-ers from this very constabulary (did I get it right - might definitely pass my citizenship test now ) is going into specialist bikepacking gear for us picky folks. Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
Rev Terrapin on my PNW limits movement to 2" but the bag hits the mudguard at this point in any case. It does allow me to get my derriere over the bag of the seat though so thats alright. I've a theory that the problem with a bag on a dropper post is when you aren't sat on it. When you are, your body weight prevents the post from waggling around. When you are stood up the bag puts a lot of stress on the wee bushings as it's not 'damped' by your ars* sat on the seat. Or something.

Re: Anyone made a dropper-specific bag yet?
Sorry. I didn't explain that properly. Not sag. But adding too much weight and it has a tendency of not fully extend immediately. I've found the service helps a little but mainly it seems to be the weight. Extra weight and it needs and extra push of the lever to get it clicking back to its full height. Putting a full 5kg or more on the post and it really struggles. Removing all the weight and it bounces back up like an excited puppy...ScotRoutes wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 10:42 pmI've had a Brand X and the dropper on my Cube fatbike looks like the exact same post.
