Just bumped into this fella getting up the hill at the end of my road. He's on a Salsa Backbarrow. Lovely fella, two days in. On the ferry to St Marlow tomorrow.

Re: Around the world on a fattie
I'm a big fan of the humble fatbike but I can't think of a less suitable bike to find replacement parts for en route riding around the world.
From tyres and tubes to rims, hubs, the bb and cranks - you'll not find anything in any regular bike shops - all things that'll need replacing regularly as the miles accumulate.
Still, no doubt he'll have himself a grand adventure - good luck to him.....

Would love to know where he will be obtaining replacement tyres from
When I did gbduro, both my tyres were bald by the 2000km end after 9days!! Had to swap front to back halfway.
As above, lots of time for a fatbike, but tyres in particular would be an issue.
Cranks, you could use a 24mm spindle to utilise the most common shimano hollotech style bottom bracket and he’s on cable brakes which is one less thing to go wrong.

When Mark Beaumont did his America North-to-South, we were his LBS. We actually posted stuff out to him in Guatemala or Nicaragua - BB, BB tools, tyres etc.

Re: Around the world on a fattie
Any modern bike is going to be hard to get spares for in large parts of the world. However, riding a fat bike is going to make it harder by an order of magnitude.
It’s all very well relying on getting spares posted in but you may be waiting a very long time on parts of the route this dude is riding.

If you are going through hell, keep going.
