That is brilliant!! I have a good friend who used to be a horse nut and had been since a kid and when I suggested "horsepacking" had a zillion excuses as to why it was not possible. I often wonder how many hours of riding the average horse actually gets and given the cost to keep and feed them what the cost per mile actually is?

Great story.

When I was in Scouts , we used to stay in a bothy at Gillerthwaite in Ennerdale. The farmer who owned it was a bloke called Bob Orrell who wrote (among others) a series of "Saddle Tramp" books about his horsepacking adventures.

In the Brecon Beacons there is a long distance horse riding trail called the Three Rivers Ride:

The Three Rivers Ride runs from Tidbatch in Herefordshire to the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre in Wales. It covers a distance of 96 miles and was developed and way marked by the British Horse Society. The rivers crossed are the Lugg, the Wye and the Usk and it travels through some beautiful and varied scenery. It forms part of a national network of bridleways developed to improve access and rights of way for horse riders.

Of course, these bridleways are conveniently marked for the likes of us but in my experience some of the route is overgrown, muddy, and almost non-existent. My guess is that horsepacking is not so popular as it could be

Great to hear and definitely think the world could do with more people like her. Just getting on and doing it while she still can.
