GX Eagle components - stock anywhere?

Post by ssnowman »

My GX eagle rear derailleur snapped yesterday. So, I'm after a new one plus a cassette.

Does anyone know anywhere with stock in the UK?

No stock anywhere till late October.

Which part have you snapped?

I’ve gone down the route of make do and mend as found a couple of spares and repairs ones on eBay.

The only compatible new stock anywhere right now is SX eagle and to be honest, the quality is so poor, self tapping set screws!!!, plastic everything

Can you use a 12 speed Shimano rear mech? I understand that they are interchangeable with SRAM 12 speed?

Unfortunately not an option as GX Eagle uses an XD driver.

The only stuff that is compatible with sram eagle is the 11 speed sram mechs as they have the same pull ratio (x-actuation), they don’t however have the capacity to handle 50 tooth cassettes.

I’m in a similar boat trying to source a spare as one of my bikes has a mangled cage from a trip into spoke city

I may have this wrong but I thought that for 12 sped you could use a Shimano rear mech with SRAM shifters and cassette? There seems to be quite a lot of people talking about this on the web. Some say it works perfectly while others say it isn’t perfect but it will do.

Interesting, learn something new everyday

So the tinternet states that sram MTB 11/12 speed shifters (x-actuation) will work with the latest 12 speed shimano mech.

Not a solution for me as I use Eagle mechs with 11 speed sram drop bar levers by fitting the exact actuation cable guide to the eagle mech.

So if I get an XT M8100 it should work with my GX Eagle cassette, but I might need to change to an XT shifter as well?

As I read it, your current shifter apparently will work with that shimano 12 speed rear mech. Be interested to know, never looked closely at 12 speed ratios for this

I’m going to try the XT derailleur with the GX Eagle shifter and see how I get on. I shall report back.
