Dartmoor 200. September 18th
I shall be giving my newly devised Dartmoor 200 ITT route it’s first proper running on 18th September 2021.
Tentative plan is to set off from Steps Bridge car park near Dunsford at 9am. My plan will be to ride through ITT style as a shakedown for BB300 the following month.
What to expect? 200km and probably 5000m climbing. BB200 style route - some over the knee river crossings, evil giant stepping stones, secluded woodland valleys, open tussocky moorland, some pushing (<3%), single track, hard pack, bog and road ((15-20%) and as it’s Dartmoor it might just rain
Any takers post on here.
Route tbc after my 2 day dress rehearsal next month.

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th
I’ve worked pretty hard to get as good a route as possible. One that is challenging and shows the best of Dartmoor. I just need to run through a few changes, I will give the route a full ride over 2 days by mid August and after that I’ll be happy to give out the gpx.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

Sorry, bit short, I meant I'm interested in the ride but my endlessly-rescheduled Fred Whitten ride might be on 19th September so I'm trying to break the cycle of endless DNS's this year.
Do you reckon it's a ride though sub-24hr route for a reasonably quick rider?

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th
No offence taken.
It’s been a while since I’ve ridden the Fred.
I expect this route would go sub 24hrs for a reasonably strong or determined rider.
As you know the hills in the SW are steep and flat ground hard to find. My experience is that maybe 3-5% maximum of this route is hike a bike.
I would expect the properly fast, well trained ITT riders would smash 24hrs easily.

NB. Fred Whitton (not on event day as £70 too much for me anyway even if I took a charity place) sounds appealing in comparison

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th
sounds could be good for a weekend.
anyone want to make an overnigher of it?
start as a group perhaps, then "we" stop for the evening as a camp.

Possibly up for this. Have check dates but should be OK. Hopefully a good route as my other experiences of dartmoor are endless pushing along invisible trails.

Re: Dartmoor 200. September 18th
I love Dartmoor and want others to share that too. There will be some pushing on invisible trails, there has to be. It wouldn’t be the full Dartmoor experience without it. The route as it stands only includes 10km or so. In two main sections. There are some other little bits here and there and in full winter wetness lots of it will be slippery. In summer most of it will be dry.
I took Shaf (RedefinedCycles) over one moorland section last month in horrid wet weather and he only moaned a little bit
There will be much more well defined, hard under the tyres trails.
There will be a smorgasbord of terrain as befits a challenging upland ride. I hope riding it will make people want to come down here more, not put them off.

So not too much different from a BB200 in that regard.lune ranger wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 3:24 pm There will be some pushing on invisible trails, there has to be. It wouldn’t be the full Dartmoor experience without it.

Did I actually Luke Which bit?? During the lovely river crossings where I wondered if I'd make it across or the bit where the Israel-issue helicopter started eyeing me uplune ranger wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 3:24 pm I took Shaf (RedefinedCycles) over one moorland section last month in horrid wet weather and he only moaned a little bit
I was actually quite happy with myself that I managed the whole wet-Dartmoor experience rather pleasantly
