WRT Grid Ref's.....
The WRT grid refs come out tomorrow.
Where do we think Stuart going to be sendus us this year?
I guess more to the West.
And is it too early to check the long term weather forecast?

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
No idea but with your pack rafting, you’ll be able to get to the traditional grid ref out to sea or in the middle of a lake!
Personally, I’ve got a few places I’d like to visit so I might disregard them totally!
Cheers

You ask that every year but still do it anyway . And of course it's always completely the opposite on the actual day!JohnClimber wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 9:28 pm And is it too early to check the long term weather forecast?

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
As I'll likely be solo this year I'm hoping for some interesting sights / nice views. Will try and get a good chunk of them.
Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Bet you they’d have been here by 9am if you’d not opened your mouth.JohnClimber wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 9:28 pm The WRT grid refs come out tomorrow.

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Its ok Taylor , John won’t be going anywhere near them , as other years it’s usually In the opposite direction and he’s taking his pack raft .
Best get them bags ready for your feet John
Also I do believe we owe you a stoning ( the life of Brian ) style for something you did last year , I will bring my bag of gravel

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
This years GR are now winging their way through cyberspace. If you haven't received yours by tomorrow, then:
Have a look in your spam folder.
Have a look at the email accounts that you never use.
Have a look at the account linked to paypal.
Consider whether you used someone else's paypal account to enter and ask them.
Still nothing, then get in touch.

If anyone feels like putting all of those into a mapping program and saving everyone else a bunch of time... please feel free!
Edit - Also, is there a theme at all to this year? Wasn't anything mentioned in the email.

Themes are for Winter Events. WRT is always about dressing up as a panda.Edit - Also, is there a theme at all to this year? Wasn't anything mentioned in the email.

Fair enough, they all sort of blend into one after a while.

Okay what's going on. These have been wild for over 3 hours and no one's started moaning ... makes me suspicious.

Couldn't have been more wrong could I?
Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Good stuff.
Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Was just trying to use Strava (due to Veloviewer heatmap) to create a route. Is it my imagination or does it not support waypoints? I can't seem to work out any way to get them into it (I've got a GPX file with the waypoints in and that works fine in most route builders, but not that).

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Much more fun and dare I say ultimately rewarding if you ignore heat maps. Just because a few people have ridden something doesn't mean that it's good or bad ... some published guidebooks contain some of the worst trails I've ever had the misfortune of

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
One of the things I'm trying to engineer into our route is doing the gridrefs *downhill*, as Stu wouldn't point us to a fine section of hikeabike climbing...would he...
Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Also, there's a few on-road refs that I'm thinking might just be great viewpoints? As I can't see any obvious trails just off the road
Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
Veloviewer heatmaps are where I've been, not where others have been. It's so I can square hunt.Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 1:50 pm Much more fun and dare I say ultimately rewarding if you ignore heat maps. Vaguely related, I just found this site and I'm finding it to be one of the best GPX creators that I've used: https://gpxstudio.github.io/

Don't want to be a tell-tale teacher's-pet but I think the GRs are publically viewable in this thread which I believe is not, er, standard practice before the "off" .

Re: WRT Grid Ref's.....
After messing around with three different mapping sites I've now got my first revision of a route. Looks like quite a lot of hike-a-bike / path not found in it so I reckon I'm also going to have to work out a few short cuts for when it inevitably turns out I've bitten off more than I can chew.
Got a decent amount of the waypoints in it, though as I'm mostly square hunting I'll be skipping those places I've been before.
