How long will tyres keep if unfitted?

Hi there.
As I'm seeing some of my favourite 27.5 tyre stocks diminish, I'm thinking of buying a few pairs of plus sizes but don't want to leave them in the shed for 12 months or more to then find their all out of shape and buggered when I come to fit them. A friend bought some of the now sadly defunct Schwalbe marathon extreme plus (26 x 2.25" of utter bulletproofness), came to fit them and they were like an egg. Any experiences and help greatly appreciated.

Really good question that, I like it.

But 27.5? I've got eight 26" Conti MK's in the shed to hopefully keep me going until I shuffle off. Seem ok at the moment after 3 years. I store them carefully and rotate positions now and then. Ten year old Swampthing got cracks in now though .

On a side note, anyone know how long triple chainrings and 9 speed cassettes last unfitted in storage?

Years if stored in sunlight though they will eventually crack I certainly use tyres that are over 10 years old and not stored in the dark [ or wales] andnt cracked yet - road tryes certainly dont last as long .

They do shrink over time though - my stock of 29er tyres seems to have shrunk to only fit 26" wheels.

Rolled up seems to be fine. Well it better be as I have a load of fat and plus tyres in the (rodent free I hope) loft and they are all rolled up....

Flat is best (especially wire ones) I’ve stored mine on a rack before hanging up and after a year or so, they’re not so nice to ride on

Have also stored folding ones rolled up and it wasn’t as bad as the wired ones but took a little time to take shape

Non-wired tyres are rolled up after manufacture and then packaged, shipped and stored like that.

I've got a mid 90's Marin in the loft. The original tyres were removed shortly after the bike was bought and have been in loft for the last 25 plus years. They're fine to use.

Road tyres I have a stock which normally means a tyre gets used around 5 years after I bought it. Much more puncture resistant than brand new stuff.

They’re like trainers. You get the perfect pair, then for no apparent reason they are discontinued. Causing ranting. Much ranting
