More adventures in rough stuff.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

There's a volume 2 in the offing and I'm sure Max would appreciate some backing. If it's as good as the first, it'll be a cracker.

Just pledged to buy the hardback book. I was looking at volume 1 only last night and thinking how good it is. Excited to see that there's another one on the way!

Top left does look like it is "in motion" shot (slack chain etc).

I'm looking for something to read - I'll order this!

Top left is the Elie Chainwalk in Fife. I recall reading the edition of the RSF mag reporting on this trip, shortly after I got involved in the Fife Coastal path, including the chainwalk. Defo a good thing to do, but not with a bike....

Wow, never knew about that. Which is especially odd since I've walked the Fife Coast Path from Lower Largo to St. Andrews. Never would have got my girlfriend near it, and she probably wouldn't have let me go near it either, so it's probably just as well. Will have to go back though.

I've looked it up and it says it's suitable for anyone over 8 years old, not saying that dragging a bike across it isn't impressive, but unless they've changed it since the photo was taken I think the angle is making it look more dangerous than it is?

It sort of reminds me of the picture of the guy who climbed Little Chamonix in Borrowdale wearing boxing gloves and roller skates

Ray McHaffie. A real hard man, & a card I heard. (his son, James, is a top climber as well.) His secret boxing gloves only have padding on the back & he took the stopper/front wheels off the skates, so it was like winter climbing for him in crampons..
He won the bet. :-bd

Any takers?

I lead the last pitch Little Cham[onix] in stiff mountain boots & an arm just outta plaster. My mate bottled on leading first up the last pitch & wouldn't ab' off, so I lead it.( Else we still be there )
My left hand was almost useless (forearm wasted away 6wks in pot) but I could still jam it in a crack & use that. My mate was cr@pping himself watching. I knew the route and didn't hang around. Just another day back on the crag... But the best day climbing with him... :-bd
I hope you think you know, what I might of exactly meant.

Its fairly straightforward if you are fairly fit and have good balance. There are a couple of traverses, one of which is overhanging a bit, which require a good grip; and a couple of down climbs which can be tricky. You need to do it at low tide as well

Dave its located below the actual coastal path between Shell Bay Caravan Park and Elie itself.

(top left) When I found out it was just a chain walk, I was disappointed. I assumed he was bungee jumping
