200 * 0.001 = 0.2
0.2 * 1609 = 321 metres*
n'est-ce pas?
*edit: I'm told the actual distance may be approximate

Could be, yes
Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
Just for shits and giggles any chance of a mountain bike category and a CX category for this? :)

I think wheel size might be more appropriate ;-)composite wrote:Just for shits and giggles any chance of a mountain bike category and a CX category for this? :)
Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
Was trying to get that from Mark Goldie's blog but the link is dead. :(numplumz wrote:Are we talking Twyi Ton :?:Ian wrote: The 100 mile route is in the public domain already, if you know where to look

If you start having categories where do you stop?composite wrote:Just for shits and giggles any chance of a mountain bike category and a CX category for this? :)
Fasted person dressed as Santa?
Dont think Ian is saying you have to ride a CX to enter, just the route will be CX friendly. Also remember its not a race its an ITT
Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
Fair enough.
Oh and by the way I would be into a MTB santa race. :)

Wot Chew said (although a prize for the fastest santa has some appeal, just to see if anyone is prepared to try it ).

Anyway..., by way of background - here's the evolution of the Wildcat 100 route:
It began on a wet November in 2012 with a hilly 80 km route with Mark Goldie (http://www.strava.com/activities/29317021) - its been a useful fitness bench mark actually, as I recall it was quite tough - though that might have been that it poured with rain for the whole five hours we rode it.
I extended it in January of this year to about 120 km (http://www.strava.com/activities/39183357), and then bolted another 35 km onto it for the Strava Quarg challenge in February (http://www.strava.com/activities/41982846).
Did it again last month and completed it over 2 hours quicker than in Feb, so its definitely got some scope for a real fast paced effort from some people. http://www.strava.com/activities/80350188
Note the start point will be slightly different, but for all intents and purposes this gives you a good outline of the "short" route. GPX will be available to download shortly, once I also have ridden the Two Ton 'O Gravel route.

Will there be somewhere to camp up at the start point?

Those rides make my eyes water, I've done 2 rides over 10 hours in my life ever! Kielder 100 (2012) and BearBones 200 (2013)Ian wrote:Wot Chew said (although a prize for the fastest santa has some appeal, just to see if anyone is prepared to try it ).

I'll have to see how the dates pan out, I might have started considering this one
Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
@composite - yes, there are a few campsites nearby. I'll check them out and provide more details.
@zippy - if you can do the BB200, I really don't think you'll find the Wildcat 100 a problem.

Ian - could you make a note of re-supply points on the route. Could be useful for us slower types.

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...
I've had a few weeks off the bike I'm afraid. The weather this weekend is looking good, so planning on doing it over two days with a bothy stop somewhere (Nant Rhys or Nant Syddion).
