At the risk of stating the obvious....while no-one else is making them he can charge what he likes I guess. It might be less painful if he were making rather than getting them made in Taiwan (presumably?).

Why is so much of what we buy for our bikes so vastly expensive/ overpriced? Marketing hype? Supply vs demand? Materials and production costs?

I reckon most of it is marketing hype pushing up prices.
Having said that I have a set of Jones loops and they are ace. I'd buy another set without a thought, which goes against my usual policy for the purchase of bike kit.

Think its all down to ourselves being prepared to pay for it
If we didnt accept the high prices and found more reasonable alternatives, then the prices would come down
e.g. compare to the world of Motorbiking, where prices for parts and clothing seen much more reasonable for what you get

Oh and Im ashamed to say that I for one have got some Jones bars (several sets infact) and yes Ive paid too much top dollar. But I do like them

I have er, 'a few' H-bars, almost a collection now
Loops are silly money really, but I see them as one of those things that will last and not really out-date. Worth it, yes to me, somehow. VFM? Compared to other bars maybe not, but I don't like most other bars as much. They are made in Taiwan, by a very good factory, prob one of the best anywhere. Thinking of what stuff would cost there at source, tooling costs etc, ship to the US, then here, distributor costs, VAT - adds up. They're not a cheap Chinese ti product and I'm happy to pay more for that )

I don't think the Alu bars are that bad when you consider the work that has gone into form them, price is probably comparable to other top end brands. Ti ones are very expensive and I am not convinced they offer anything other than the bling factor, but I don't own a set so could well be wrong, even there price though isnt that bad when compared to the Thompson bars.

You also have to consider cost of ownership. If you decided to get rid of them you would get a good second hand price on Jones bars. I dont think you could say the same for most other brands or style of bar.
