Recommend me some.... plus fours?

Waterproof 3/4s work well but a bit clammy. So how about Japanese touring longs? I just want something I can ride in cooler weather maybe with longer socks to keep leg and feet warm w/o the Mr Under Armour shorts over tights look. Touring shorts and knee warmers are ok but for full leg coverage, really, is the plus fours look so bad?

A company called Rin Project in Japan do them and I think BQ have imported something similar to the US. Anything similar in the UK?

I reckon these would be great for winter riding -

I have no idea what you are on about- googled rin project and looked at the images section but all that came back was a bunch of weird anime pics

I've been wearing 3/4 tights and knee-length Sealskinz this past couple of weeks.

Thanks, interesting. Breeks, that's a new word to me. Moleskin - do you ride in them? I saw some on there that are polyester and wind/waterproof, seems obv. now that spending time on a moor might have similar needs as pootling on a bike.

james, yes i do ride in them. they are warmer than three quater baggies from cycling brands like endura and fox.
they get damp when raining but stay warm. but i use keela overtrouser in the rain so never a problem.

I've been wearing 3/4 length shorts for yonks now (3/4 length shorts sound cooler than plus fours but maybe less hip  ) Madison trail shorts or Endura singletracks. For reasons unknow my knees seem to get sore with tights but not when I'm wearing loose shorts or trousers. As with Colin I wear them with knee length socks (stripy natch) in cooler weather.

3/4 length tights keep my knees warm.

Knee length socks keep my feet dry.

If I wear full length tights then water tends to wick upwards, cooling my whole leg.

Shorter socks tend to get wet from water running down my leg and into them.

And yes, when it's very wet I'll end up with either waterproof shorts or waterproof trousers too.

It's not that I'm against getting wet, it's that wet becomes cold very quickly when riding through icy water and slush when it's around freezing.

Due to crappy Scottish weather, when biking I’m currently wearing waterproof trousers, waterproof walking boots and waterproof gaiters.

Its been keeping me dry when riding but also means I can just hose myself down after a wet muddy ride

What's hipper/cooler, hip or cool? : ) No idea here..

Normal 3/4 shorts would work but I hadn't seen many about recently, thought they'd faded away with the rise of enduro kneepads. Humvees will never die will they. If there were some that were more fitted than the Madison or Humvees, the touring shorts equivalent, they'd be ideal. Like an FS260 cut.

Having looked at plus fours I honestly can’t recommend any, I do however have a pair of Endura 3/4 length shorts which are very nice when combined with a set of long tights.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

Put me in that in the LA hills at sunset with a Ti pipe and a rusty rando bike (a randy rusto bike even), I reckon no one would bat an eyelid - except me maybe, getting into the part.. OK ENOUGH

R@ph@ used to make a 3/4 softshell troo that was mildly waterproof and mostly windproof. One of the best bits of kit I've ever spent far too much money on. I literally wore the arse out of them over 5-6 years of London commuting. Loved them. I just checked. They don't do them anymore. Shame.

That's the sort of thing - plain, few pockets, light fabric. Wonder what the cut is like for cycling?

Just cut some MOD Gore-tex trousers down? Think mine were about £15 off ebay.
