The Centre Of Britain And New Riding Partners.

Post by Ray Young »

A long way off yet as i'm proposing Sep 14 but here's the score.
Apparently there are two centres of Britain which is due to two different methods of measuring being used. One is Haltwhistle in Northumberland which I am going to ignore, nothing wrong with it, just the other one suits my purpose better. The other is SD 641 565, smack in the middle of The Forest Of Bowland. The fact that this point is actually a bog is irrelavent as close by is Salter Fell, across which runs a Roman road which Lancashire council have, in their wisdom included in an MTB route called funnily enough "The Salter's Way" which they describe as being one of the finest moorland crossings in Britain.
So unless someone can tell me of a better location in The Forest Of Bowland, and I am open to suggestions, then I propose a "bivi get together" at SD 650 590 on the above date.
Make your own way there, at your own pace, on your own route.

Sorry all, can't do this now as the wife has booked us a holiday in Malta. No reason why it still can't go ahead though if people are interested.
As an aside, MTB hire in Malta is looking good, £43 for 7 days rental, might just have to have some of that :D .

Anyone thinking of doing this? I would be if the wife hadn't booked a holiday without consulting me first  .
