Cairgorms Loop - 300km self-supported challenge

Post by stevew »

I've set-up a little 184mile (300km) self-supported event in the Scottish Highlands for the weekend of the 5th May 2012, that's the first May bank holiday weekend. It covers some pretty tough terrain with a bit of hiking, plenty of fords to cross, and dramatic mountain scenery. The Cairngorms Loop uses different trails to travel twice around the central Cairngorm Mountains, taking in some of the best wilderness mountain bike trails in Scotland.

http://www.cairngormsloop.net/

The Cairngorms National Park is Britain's largest National Park, and contains Britain's highest and most massive mountain range.

Check it out and drop me a mail if you're interested. Numbers are limited to avoid unwanted attention from anyone official.

Nice one Steve. "Entry" sent :)

edit: there's already some top riders on that list - should be a good challenge.

this looks vaguely exciting, I'd love a crack at it, but going have to work big style on my fitness over the next six months if I want to attempt stuff like this :) I'm sure I can do it ;)

I could tie it in with a family visit to the in-laws in Aberdeen.

When do I need to let you know by Steve????

Cool Ian, sent my intent email earlier. Just seen the rider list, looks like it's stirred up some top interest already. I'm not worthy

Hi Valleydaddy

It's good to have big goals, and we all start somewhere. If it's a big step up and thinking about riding it gives you what I call 'the fear', that aprehension and excitement of the unknown, then you're in. The fear is a good motivator that keeps you committed, training, and holding out on that training ride that's kicking your ass. You need plenty of them to make the event suffering easy.

Drop me an email.

Cheers,

Steve

Dear all,

I'm afriad that's it, the 30 spaces are filled, so entries are closed. The list will be updated with the latest and last three entries tonight when I get home.

A strong and capable field, and shows demand for a few more challenging events in the UK.

Cheers,

Steve

Welsh contingent ITT? I'd like a 'crack' at that sometime (easier to administer than EPO)!

So one week to go and I'm seeing pictures and hearing of a good powder dump on the cairngorm range ready for this weekends skiers, sounds like it could be an epic for the event next week.
Anyone else on here doing it, I'm looking for some water wings for the burn crossings

I have train ticket and week off so will be there to start at any rate. I have done little preparation and don't really know what conditions will be like. Could be interesting.
