Would you risk it (for a biscuit)...

Post by redefined_cycles »

Well, protecting the pizza actually. Trying to get the most out my road tires. They've seen a small amount of gravel and cobbles but generally had a good life and given me many miles. But no the rear is looking like this and the delamination section of about 6cm had been covered over with Tesa tubeless tape..

I'm noy sure but reckon I might risk another 150ish miles on em. Your thoughts...

The bear is correct you are a Yorkshire man to the core, do you need a new tyre - I can send you one for free.

Would i ride that ? NO
Would i use tessa tape as a tyre substitute ? NO Its someway from grippy - I would rather glue an inner tube over the tyre and ride that , not that i am recommending this as sensible.

BIN about three months ago is my advice

 thats why i thought I'd better ask. Only ever had one tyre go pop on me (well it was the rim that the pads had worn through)

Good effort there.
Many moons ago I was on a club run and my rim sidewall split (ahh those happy days of rim brakes) Fortunately some fast action got the tyre deflated before it exploded but I was 30 miles from home. The shop nearby sold parcel tape so I wrapped this round rim and tyre many times, inflated it to about 20psi and rode carefully the 10 miles to Perth and got the train back to embra. I'd worn through about 2/3rds of the parcel tape. So 2 dozen wraps of tesa tape might get you 150 miles?? Might be a bit lumpy though

I call it taking it to the limit. But I did learn a lesson from when the rim wore through and try to have a beyter buffer these days. I actually feel quite priveleged and satisfied when I run my gear right to the limit. I'll take Tesa tape as being the limit on this one (though the less knackered Shcwalbe Pro One tubeless I'm replacing it with is being a bit of a pest to get inflated tubeless... too baggy and holed)...

Why not stick to non safety critical things and say get more mileage out of a torn saddle rather than a torn tyre ?

Yorkshire vibe and safety are both satisfied :-bd

I know someone who had a worn rim explode when they were in front of a bus. Luckily, the bus was going just slow enough to hit them, but not kill them.

I reckon they've got a few months in them yet! This was only noticed after a few weeks of feeling the back end slide in the wet!

Great tyres for not much £? Got a set on my new bike and they were £11 at shop/trade cost.

GP5000?
They perform well, but exactly the same happened to me and in less miles than I'd usually expect from a tyre.

But no, don't bother riding much on them.

Yup... gp5000 in tubeless flavour. I can't fault em though as I was taking em for off road jaunts every so often for tiny stints of rocky and a few times I probably ran em at lower pressure than I should have (50psi)... Lasted since when they were released and tubeless throughout that time so given me a good life  2000 miles or well over...

Panaracer GravelKing TLC SK ordered in 32mm... Hope they fit!

I guess we are different, I expect more than 2000 miles!
Have replaced mine with Michelin, although also testing Schwalbe Pro One soon.

But I had 0 punctures, they were rolling well and supple.
GP5000 to a Gravel King is quite a bit of a difference...

Not actually fitted them yet. The current ones are still in good enough order.
