I should have guessed :-bd
Yep. My parents had really eclectic musical tastes and I was an avid listener of John peel so I'll listen to anything. I don't like it all but I'll give it a listen.

And the only two tracks he ever played back to back are..... "are we allowed to do that, I dunno..."
Both by the undertones? One definitely was.

Nice! I have a couple of releases on that label, including Shadow Boxing (remix). 👍

P.S. Currently listening to Radio 1's Residency - Sherelle's A-Z of Jungle, she's just referenced the Amen break.. 🤣

Well, I can safely say that it's deep minimal techno that I like. Nothing to melodic or any big synths, I like the space between the sounds.

I feel like I educated myself about drum and bass, by spending time thumbing through 12s in record shops and queuing for the deck or at parties and being part of a DJ scene. It's almost like I don't know how to find out about music these days, or probably more accurately I don't feel the same excitement as I used to. It just isn't the same searching through the internet. </oldman>

Just had a listen to this. Can't really argue with any of her choices for a retrospective selection, although I thought Pulp Fiction and Renegade Snares were notable absences.

Being 50 I know how you feel, some of my favourite music I’ve listened to for nearly 40 years, but occasionally I just hear something and it makes me oh ooooo
A while ago I liked these young noise merchants

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7M2P1FJZiX8

Nothing new there but better than the normal radio friendly pop poor show, one of the problems now is the sheer amount of entertainment available, my youth was spent in record shops, listening to John peel and recording stuff off the radio on to magnetic tape. The excitement was an entry ticket to a different world.
Hedge porn and music was all we had!
Radio 6 is always a good bet for some interesting playlists.

Which led to this

And via a convoluted route to crystal method

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H6BEkPzstJQ

I wish I could find the dirt bike video I first heard it in, class editing.

Then to a symphonic version of ‘Killing moon’
Which led to another playing of ‘Terminus’ by HMHB Just to compare the genius of the lyrics.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rj4yL1_P4k

HMHB
Camped out on a lower slope
Dog-tired at the toposcope
Hot soup in the aftermath
Salad days in many ways
Then time creeps up unseen
And it puts me back at the front of the bus
Hands I once held
No longer there
Grey falls on the green
As I try and get used to ‘me’ and not ‘us’
Where I’m going I’m not sure that I care
Still thought I could play out wide
Felt sure I could stay onside
But stiff limbs and a shin which looks like
Inter’s end on derby day
Says time’s crept up unseen
And it’s stuck me back at the front of the bus
Bound who knows where
Free of charge
The situation’s lean
Though it could be worse
So I don’t make a fuss
Still evading capture
Still at large
Somebody’s mumbling Galatians
Somewhere a wolf-print fleece needs 90 degrees
Pushchair-related confrontations
Pastoral conceits, Italian fancies, comic glees

Today I have listened to:

- Some old Cure stuff whilst driving into work.

-That Dave Clarke essential mix that got mentioned - yes!

- The 2nd Charlatans album (Between 10th and 11th) whilst on the train to go riding.

- Some Gunship* on my ride home from town.

-And now some Gogo Penguin as I sit full of Spanish fish stew and a nice NEIPA.

A good day!

*listen to Gunship - it's like somebody condensed everything that was great about the 80s for your listening pleasure :-bd

One for Tech' again  .

So my "Joe Meek + others" CD box set turned up. Quite fascinating. Bearing in mind it was 1959/60 and the bloke was often as mad as a lorry, the tracks are really interesting. Some quite soporific drums/bass at times, along with all sorts of electronic wizardry (for the time!). I've got to pluck up courage before I move on to Stockhausen etc on the final disc.

One Meek track reminded me of Sandy Nelson's "Teen Beat", which actually came out in 1959/60 as well. As you probably know, it was re-made and expanded considerably by Johnny Hawksworth and Daphne Oram of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop as backing for the absolute classic example of the film maker's art, the 1963 Geoffrey Jones British Transport Film "Snow". Which I'm going to watch for the umpteenth time right now  : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl4pJwcE7JI.
