No expense spared kit wish list

Post by TheBrownDog »

I think I'm just looking for ideas to spend money I don't have on things I don't need. But what the heck: I'm wondering what's on folk's wish lists. This is not about bikes. It's about stuff. Me? Its:

MLD Duomid with a single inner
Explorer UL Classic Hennessey hommock set
Vargo Bot ... the one with the handles. Not sure why though.

While we're at it: I'm looking for the one perfect knife: something I can baton a few logs with but still slice the chorizo and peppers. Bloody first world problems ....

What are you hankering for?
I'm just going outside ...

I generally don't hanker for much these days. Probably because I've become (more) jaded, sceptical and old. I've lerarnt that the grass isn't greener, a new bike won't make me faster or even happier and a shiney bit of bling most likely won't live up to the hype surrounding it and will be a constant and nagging disappointment

Spending tends to be on materials as I find much greater satisfaction in making than I do in having ... quite often, I'll give away whatever it is I make.

Sorry Tim, I appreciate that's in no way helpful :-bd

The one thing I can't get out of my head is an Enlightened Equipment Torid Apex jacket. Still no idea how I'll come up with cash or how I'd make it through the 10 week lead time and that's only until shipping from the States.

take me and a friend to mongolia.
not a thing, but an experience

as i get older (and hopefully a little wiser) i am starting to appreciate (more) that it isn't stuff that is the route to happiness but sharing time with those people who matter

yes, yes, i know, not very consumer society friendly

Definitely of this mind set. Having said that I still need a few tools for my workshop to help building stuff more efficiently. As for dream kit list, god knows, most of my stuff is not expensive but has served me well.

A new lightweight tarp tent would be nice :-bd

Also, maybe a flat bar cutthroat but that really is a dream world

There'a not much that I'm currently lusting after but I'd like to try a Revelate Spinelock seat pack as I have a first gen Alpkit bag that wags like a dog's tail. I'd also like a more modern, lighter version of my Exped Synmat7 and I'd love to try a decent quality down quilt to see how I'd get on with it.

When EE posted my quilt it arrivedscarily quickly - with an even scarier bill from HMRC :o

Now I’ve got the altaplex there’s nothing I need, a second set of nice wheels would be nice but I don’t think that’s going to happen I’d need a son and an onyx rear hub, a titanium Fargo frame?
I couple of times I’ve thought a Spot or the garmin mini inreach might be a nice thing to have.
Mostly I’d like this bloody virus to piss off home so we can get out proper.
We’re all individuals, except me.

I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark

Some nice bits for the van
Electric motor for my cargo bike
Nice new group set for my MTB
Tarptent Aeon Li shelter
Thermarest uberlite mat
Fancy gravel bike
Bigger garage
Some B2 boots

I need none of that stuff, would be happy it if just appeared. Might end up getting the last item for a trip, but that’s about it. Happy with all my kit, would like more time for adventures if anything

DC tig welder and someone to teach me how to use it
Could do with a new jet wash as my ancient Bosch one bought 22 years ago is on its last legs
Quite fancy a '70 triumph trophy if I can find the right one at the right price (or my old one)
Some form of trail (motor) bike that will be used on the road so no silly enduro thing but still with a bit of pep.
Just got a new bike so the N+1 itch is scratched for now....
Errr, got everything else I think

A Ti gravel bike and a cinq plug. Oh and a good battery pack. The last one I really need to buy, but the rest I can live without for now.
Edit - a mechanic. I would like one of those to hand, one that didn't cost me money.

Ohhhh alright, if it has to be stuff: a full-sized 1000fp down pillow that packs down to the size of an orange and weighs 50g.

Well you did say no expense spared.

If someone could tell me where I could obtain such a priceless unicorn I'd be most grateful.

Moots, Seven or Bingham (was Kent Eriksen). One of those would do fine. I'll do the rest with bin-liners thanks....

(Kit entirely made from Bin liners; there's a challenge :-bd )

Mostly this. As far as cycling/bikepacking goes I reckon I'm pretty much sorted but I'm always open to trying things out and sometimes that means they become part of my kit. Other times they either immediately don't work for me or it sometimes takes me a while to work that out. I'm also reticent about spending money on new stuff for that reason.

Aeon Li has already been mentioned. Can someone please buy one, dè use they don't like it, and then sell it to me for half price?

Maybe a OR Helium and a DCF microtarp.

And a swanky new BB top.

For the first time, im pretty much done. I've got what I need. The only thing I might consider is an upgrade to my sleeping bag.

And another thing ... someone to sew me a bit of silnylon to somehow connect the doors of my Lanshan 1 to create a sort of awning/porch that I can prop up with a stick to sit under in the rain and brew up and watch the go down and/or up. That’d be nice.

Actually, thinking about it, I could probably manage that myself with some tyvek and Velcro.
I'm just going outside ...

Some kit, some not.....

1. My health back to how it was 3 or 4 years ago. So basically a piece of kit that can reverse the effects of some fecked up DNA. That'll be expensive!
2. The time to enjoy riding/bikepacking/touring without keeping an eye on the clock/calendar (and with some open borders...). If this has to have a physical cost then enough to clear the remaining mortgage. Plus a bit spare...
3. And for the kit... my Surly Ogre exactly as it was set up before I sold it. For what I needed or wanted it was perfect.
