Is there a free, online route planner that allows multiple tracks?
I used to use GPX Editor (www.gpxeditor.co.uk) for planning routes.
It was great because:
-it can follow roads and quite a lot of paths (and you can turn following on and off easily)
-you can switch between OS maps, OCM, and satellite
-you can load multiple routes and tracks, which stay in separate segments in the editor, so you can easily load an old route, cut out the bit you need and join it to a new route.
I say was, because the last two features are now subscription only (£20 a year). Maybe I should stop being tight and cough up, since it is probably the best route planner I've found, but I already pay for Viewranger Premium.
Is there anything else around that does this?

If you use a Garmin, then Basecamp, clunky though it is, is very feature rich.
If you are going through hell, keep going.

I don't, but is there anything stopping me using Basecamp? Doesn't it import and export GPXs?

The only issue with Basecamp will be access to maps. You can download a good OSM one from openfietsmap that should do most of what you want.
There are ways of getting OS Maps to show too but you need an external drive /USB drive etc.
If you have a Garmin you can plug that into your PC and Basecamp will use the mapping on that too.

Ah, that sounds tedious. OS mapping would be preferred, but not essential. What does Basecamp use by default if it doesn't even have OSM/OCM?

IIRC, none at all.
Re: Is there a free, online route planner that allows multiple tracks?
That's a fair bit cheaper than RWGPS basic membership level that allows similar editing ability, so stop being tight : ) I might try GPX editor and make the switch. I think £20 a year for OS mapping layers and good route creation tools is great VFM when you consider what good routes can add to your riding.I say was, because the last two features are now subscription only (£20 a year). Super basic base map that’s good for nothing.

You're probably right James. It's just an ongoing cost, when I seem to be accumulating (non-essential) ongoing costs at the moment But on the plus side, seems to be a small, UK-based developer - the sort of person/people who should be rewarded for putting the time into this. Though a little hesistant since they're completely unknown! It's a great tool for the reasons I mentioned though. Not perfect, but probably the best I've found.

I would Dave, but my coding skills scream "engineer" so I'd probably just make more of a mess of it.Dave Barter wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:26 am You all need to help me finish this then

Ah Servalan, an early passion
Still use Tracklogs a lot, so here's hoping you get that off the ground Dave.
I have been using Brouter a lot lately. https://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=8/5 ... 2/standard
No OS maps, or online route storage but it's useful for uploading several tracks on top of each other, then plotting route using the tracks as a guide. Works OK on a phone as well.
One of the few that deals with waypoints (which I use a lot) as well.
It seems very configurable for those with the knowledge.

That looks promising. It's a shame that you can only overlay existing tracks, but not edit or export them. Lots of features and options though, so one to keep an eye on.numplumz wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 2:23 pm Ah Servalan, an early passion

Re: Is there a free, online route planner that allows multiple tracks?
I've got a big issue to solve with large tracks all 100% Alan Goldsmith's fault as I test using the full HT550 route. This has 10k plus points in the track which slows editing to a crawl. I'm working on several approaches to fix that but it's nearly ready to test. Waypoints are in there already and I just need to stitch in the new OS api as we're good to go. I need a Tracklogs alternative as well hence the project.numplumz wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 2:23 pm Ah Servalan, an early passion

Dave, going off-topic a bit ...
Do you have to load all 10k points when editing? Work out what points you need at a particular zoom level and then just load those that would appear in the window. Disable editing until you get to a sufficient level in the way that OSM do.

It’s linked to the way MVC works in Qt location. Try coding it and you’ll find out. Suffice to say I have a solution that is similar yet better as it allows zoomed out editing. I show a subset based on where on the line you want to edit. It’s just a bit buggy atm as I keep rewriting it.

I think this allows multiple routes and has a superb array of base maps incl IGN,

I use that every year around New Year to make a summary of the past year's trips, like this:Rich3rd wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 6:18 pm I think this allows multiple routes and has a superb array of base maps incl IGN,

It's great for showing lots of GPX tracks on a map (you can upload a zip file) but you can't move/join/split/trim them.
Re: Is there a free, online route planner that allows multiple tracks?
Maybe not the best choice of project name - unless you want every route to end up in a disused quarryDave Barter wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 10:26 am You all need to help me finish this then

It's the kind of project that I'd like to get involved with, but I can't commit much time, at the moment (C++ is a vague, distant memory, but I could probably blow some cobwebs off the appropriate knowledge)
Is there a public facing deployment of your current state of play?

It's not a web based system Bob it runs client side as per Tracklogs/Memory Map. I'm in the process of rewriting a lot of it so hang fire a few weeks.

I need an OSX user to test something out for me. If it works I'm not too far away from a beta
