Spent the last fortnight filling in annoying/tricky gaps in my cluster that had been lurking since last year. Got the last one with today's ride to take my max square to 50x50.

I'm 2 rides (and a coffee at Shaf's ) away from 51x51 but then I've got some serious grinding to do again to get any further.

Yep Eaton Hall is definitely an elusive tile - only way to bag it will be an open day.

Hoping August open day will be on, otherwise it’ll be a long wait to next year!

Believe me I’ve been staring at this tile for a week or so, and had a look at pretty much every conceivable entrance - all locked gates and a fair schlep to anywhere near the hall.

I spy a runway - touch and go, maybe.

(Would have to be a pedal powered aircraft, though)

Not cheating - unless you've decided to apply the 'From Home' rule yourself.

My personal rules for a contributing activity are:
* Self-powered activity (cycle, walk, climb, paddle, swim).
* Enter the tile from another tile.

Others elect to only count rides that start and finish near home, and there's a specific Strava group for that: https://www.strava.com/clubs/319553

Hope not, I often stop on the way home from work and pull the bike out of the van. I did ride only from home up until a certain point but now it’s a 45 minute drive to the edge of my square, most square rides would need to be centuries now and for me it’s just not going to happen very often, imagine you miss one square, it might mean a 60 plus mile ride to bag it when I’ve just driven past on the way home.

Oh I nearly forgot, 37 miles and 2700ft dotted the i’s and crossed a few t’s bringing me up to a round 30x30



As you can see I’ve proper dunked my biscuit and some serious graft is going to be needed to expand.


Nice ride today, I’ve neglected the Cotswolds even though it’s almost on my doorstop. Some great gravel tracks and quite lanes with pretty views and some up.

As Pete says, it’s a bit of a self imposed rule.
Once you get past 20x20 it becomes difficult and burdensome to do, so I’ve relaxed that one.

If I do drive somewhere for a walk/cycle, I’ve always made sure it’s an activity of sufficient duration.
I can’t just park up and walk around for 5 mins to get a square.

Nice ride today, I’ve neglected the Cotswolds even though it’s almost on my doorstop. Some great gravel tracks and quite lanes with pretty views and some up.

I enjoy a ride in the Cotswolds but by the shortest route it is 50km to the north tip so it's always a big day out to get in a decent lump of it. I have a great 200km route that takes in 7 steep climbs, total stinkers, including the famous Bushcoomb lane with its 25% ramps. Tough but great for a challenging ride. Lots of nice places to stop for lunch in those parts as well.

Partly joking, I know the Humber is tricky navigation, but one trip on an ebb tide could see most of those squares ticked off

I can link the clusters on north and south bank with a ride or two, that'll do I reckon. A friend of a friend took an exercise bike on to the deck of a North sea ferry he tells me. Crazy Audaxers eh!

This happened to me on the BB200 in 2014. Fortunately, I only lost about 4 miles at the very end.
