I have the different size legs thing... I'm more annoyed by it than I should be, I guess mostly because I was always quite happy with the musculature of my legs.

Currently 86kg and must try harder
Took me long enough to find this but was 86kg now just under 83kg, still eating but a little better i guess but more importantly quality riding with proper rest days seems to be working for me at the moment so happy days. :-bd

5/5 75.0
22/5 74.6
29/5 73.8

I kept a food diary this week which helped keep me aware of snacks and managed to get out on the bike towing the kids a couple of times over the bank holiday weekend. Towing 60kg behind you is a good workout.

Nice one Paul

2020 peak mass 109.7
Start of thread 21/02/20 - 104.70
Last week 22/05/20 - 97.6
This week 29/05/20 - 97.4

Could have done better, last few days have not gone well food wise. Lots of grazing on sugared carbs and even a giant slice of mint aero cheese cake my middle lad made. He was very proud of himself so it would have been rude not to.
Numbers saved by the riding I think.

I feel like im maintaining, though i guess theres a steady downward trend still. The hard bit currently is whenever I reduce the input, i start to feel tired and empty on the bike. Probably some science to help somewhere..

Hmmm, it would appear that I edited last weeks entry instead of copying the numbers and creating a new entry :-bd

That's what I get for attempting to multitask!

As you are all aware, the internet is awash with BS on diet, nutrition, etc. It must be one of the few areas with more crap science than cycling websites!

But this guy seems to make sense, and offers some balanced analysis of credible peer reviewed scientific papers.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCosmc7 ... 7GWyEyFFMw

I made my breakthrough going onto a mostly plant-based whole food diet. Eat loads, never hungry or unsatisfied, and now down from almost 60 to 54kg, which is 1kg below my optimal weight (as per some testing I did with a PhD researcher a few years back). Probably lost some muscle mass since the gyms closed!

I still eat fish and occasionally other meat, and I will NEVER be vegan (in the same way I will not subscribe to any religion), but ditching the processed crap has worked wonders for me - wish I had made the time to cook quality meals from a much earlier age!

Right then, today marks the first day of a very silly idea!

Some mates have talked me and Mrs Gairy (who weighs exactly half as much as me  ) to join them in a 9 day detox / rapid weight loss torture event.

I am fully aware of how unsustainable they are and how nobody keeps any lost weight off unless they then change their habits too.

But it seemed like as good a way to kick-start better behaviour as any.

So, two days of almost no food (today a handful of blueberries for breakfast, one tomato, a bit of lettuce, a bit of cucumber for lunch and some steamed asparagus, green beans and broccoli for dinner) as well as loads of supplements and vitamins etc... to get the fat burning going and then seven days of almost nothing during the day and then a 600 kcal dinner.

Christ, it'll either kill me or shift some weight but at the minute I've no idea which it'll be.

Thanks.

Ironically I've been feeling pretty good lately. I can only assume that the months of back injury and slight weight loss was actually heavy muscle being lost and lighter fat being added in abundance.

And so now that I'm riding again I'm building the muscle back up but not yet shifting the fat quickly enough so am gaining kgs again - boo!

So assuming these 9 days pan out I'm looking forward to doing longer and longer rides as the summer gets going.

22/5 74.6
29/5 73.8
5/6 73.7

This week started off well with a Leisurely 48k mixed terrain ride down to Castle Ring and back but went downhill with the kids sleep patterns (my eldest was up from 23:30 to 17:00 yesterday, with my youngest up at 2:30 the previous day) so the second half of the week contained way too much beer and chocolate. The slight loss was a surprise.

Again, slowly slowly.
I'd still rather some drastic big change but this is likely more sustainable, just.

Cripes! Weighed myself this morning after 48 hours of the daft diet and..... I'm down by 3.4kg

Be interested to see what the total loss by the end will be :-bd

Then I just need to stop being a dick about food and I'll be laughing.

28-02-20 - 115.9kg
Beginning of year - ~118kg

I'll take that!

9 days of being hangry for a loss of 4.9kg.

What I've learned:

- being hungry ain't so bad to live through
- portion sizes were waaaaay out of hand
- after a little time without simple things taste amazing
- my previous regime was frickin' crazy high in calories!

What next:

- general 5:2 approach
- low carbs
- no 'treats' (toxic crap) other than occasional very light chocolate (70%) consumption
- more exercise and plenty more riding bikes

Start of thread 21/02/20 - 104.70
Last week 05/06/20 - 96.9
This week 12/06/20 - 96.3

I'm now getting fluctuations in mass by a good 0.5kg per day. I assume dependant on water / hydration levels.
I'm also getting massive energy loss in the evenings, at about 8 or 8:30 which is bang on ride time generally. I was only cruising about for an hour on the bike last night but felt as empty as I've been on 3 day ITT's in the past. Clearly need to work out the food is fuel thing.

In good news for me though, I'm edging ever closer to that target. Which at the start was 87.5, always known I really want below 90 which is feeling both achievable and miles away depending how hungry I am

Thanks Dave for starting the thread btw.

Might I suggest, one thing might have helped me. Is that I try to make all local deliveries in person with my Stan. I reckon my range on the mtb is about 30 miles but on roadie a bit more

Botherations! (true wording of my feelings on this are unfit for public airing)

I've been monitoring things since last week and the weight has just crept back up continuously despite me running a calorie deficit every single day, lots of physical work and plenty of exercise.

A mate suggested I double check the recommended protein intake and it turns out that the dumb generic 'rules' for that cleanse meant that I was getting less than half of the protein I needed in order for my body not to eat my muscle for fuel instead of fat whilst starving myself.

I am seriously unimpressed as it's impossible for the architects of the diet to be ignorant of that fact (given the level of detail about every aspect of nutrition) which leads me to the conclusion that it's that they want you to lose loads and don't care if it's muscle mass or goes straight back on.

Kind of annoyed (another understatement) that I've just been wasting my time but I'll persevere.....

My missus has had to do a Dominic Cummings to look after a sick relative taking one of the boys with her but that's meant I've had to juggle working from home with ensuring my 8 year old is kept alive and fed so there's been zero exercise and lots (and lots) of snacking.
