Highland Trail Race Report

Post by Ian »

I've written the first two installments of my Highland Trail experience.

http://ianbarrington.com/2013/06/01/hig ... roduction/

http://ianbarrington.com/2013/06/02/hig ... ace-day-1/

Two more installments to come...

Enjoy.

WOW!

On paper I thought this race looked daunting. Following you all whilst it was happening I knew it was serious. But....reading about it makes the whole thing seem even more mental.

Those two days of riding sound longer, harder and meaner than anything I've ever done (or am likely to do!) - chapeau sir!

Luckily you had a nice short Day 03 to recover :?

Double wow. Thanks Ian, you have inspired me to do this. Reckon it will take two years to get fit enough to do the slowest time on record. Talk me out of it please!

Thanks chaps :)

If Day 3 won't talk you out of it, nothing will ;)

Doesn't put me off as what you call 'Day 03' I'm thinking of as 'Days 05 and 06' :D

This is definitely on my 'to do' list though if/when I take it on it'll be at more of a leisurely pace than yours!

Don't worry, it certainly puts me off having another go ;)

Holy crap Ian - you certainly gave it some!

Sounds absolutely amazing (/terrifying).

An almighty effort and a really nice written-up too (am surprised you remembered that much of it).

What next???

Thanks :) And that was to finish in Aidan's wake, some 11 hours behind. For context, I was still riding the Great Glen when Aidan finished.
Sounds absolutely amazing (/terrifying).
Yes, both of those!

Surprised me too tbh. Reference to maps, Strava and photos helped a bit too.
What next???
Edit: Bear Bones 200 ;)

Several people have asked me this. Maybe the CTR at some point, but probably not next year. Pretty sure I won't be doing the HT400 again...

Ian,

Sounds an vaguely exciting ride, well done on completing it (more impressively, racing it!).

Thoroughly enjoyable write up too :D

Excellent read Ian - I can still not begin to imagine that level of effort/pain/satisfaction on completion  :)

Enjoyed reading that race report. Loved the tactics that got you in to 2nd place. Great stuff!
