Way off topic, Photoshop

Post by Taylor »

Is there a free version of Photoshop or something similar? My son has been looking and can only find a paid version. He only needs it for a few photos.

Glimpse is a fork of GIMP, partly to get rid of the, "problematic", acronym, but also to fix a load of the exiting UX issues.

GIMP wors well, learning curve is a bit steep. But so are most photo editing software packages.

You've never said what it is he needs to do - depending on this, it may not even need something so complex.

If you're not bothered about it being the latest version then Photoshop CS2 is available free with the unlock code via various places on t'interweb.

I've been using it since it was current and feel no need to pay for the newer versions.

Take a look at darktable, basically an open source version of Lightroom, the UI is almost identical.
If he’s using a tablet there actually is a free PS, photoshop express.

Sorry Greg I didn't read all of your post.
He's meant to be on a school trip to Italy at the moment and as that's not happening we thought we'd give him a bit of fun homework of photoshoping himself Infront of the Colosseum, etc.

Ideally you’ll need something that works with layers. Some of the open source design software might work too, just import both pictures and cut around the one of your son etc, if your not doing a lot of work on the actual pictures that could be an option.
Something like Inkspace might work. It’s a vector based program for design based stuff, but I image would work. Good community based support too.

Depending on his needs, Snapseed and Enlight on my iPhone work well. Basic but fine for minor tweaks etc

Edit - just read what you need, the above probably won’t help

It doesn't have to be the best, it's more tongue in cheek so we can email his teacher with random photos of him in Italy.

Microsoft Paint will cover that little task Taylor (Freeform selection and Transparent selection ticked to cut himself out of a pic then just drag it onto the Colloseum)

Paint.

"Boners in front of famous landmarks" is a decent idea for a thread in these troubled times.

Yeah I had a look through my "Photos of Boners" folder and it was pretty thin gruel tbh.

You and I excluded of course.
