Err, drivetrains cost how much....

Post by FLV »

Need a cassette, chain, chainring, jockey wheels and as a result was browsing drivetrains.

All that fancy 12 speed stuff is right pricey,
no i haven't been living under a rock but now it comes to look at spending my own cash I have an opinion

Theres groupsets at rrp 1900 pounds quid :o

Anyway, I think when i get up off the floor I'll get a sunrace or xt cassette and be done with it. Back to browsing...

Agreed, im on sunrace cassette now, shifts fine (well, its rather worn now)
My drivetrain is noisy in the crud which led me to browse shimano but i dont fancy the 37-46 gap

Sunrace and SLX 11-speed looks like the sensible option to me

For close to or at the bleeding edge yes. For those of us with more sense than money there's more options.

You don't say what make/model/speed your current setup is. I'd go:

Sunrace cassette
Kmc chain
Chainring will depend on what crank you have and whether you want oval or round.
Jockey wheels - just get the cheap BBB ones

My preferred setup, balancing price and durability is:

Shimano SLX shifter and derailleur
Sunrace cassette
KMC chain
Raceface Aeffect cranks
Absolute Black oval chainring

Two bikes are 10spd, one is 11spd.

Sram sx. 360. I use them on Hunt and the BR.

Also try box components. Even cheaper.

I spent a bit of time pondering 9 speed box components last night. Wonrring if it would last any longer in the peak grit.

Then my mind turned to singlespeed so I backed out of the garage before that happened to my broken road. The kit is just sat there...

Not long swapped out the Sora drive train on cdf
38/24 deore crankset £55
11/36 deore cassette £21
Dia comp bar end shifters £45
Xt front dual pull derailleur £28
Chain £15
Tried a old shadow + rear mech but wouldn’t shift properly so left the 9speed sora on and works perfect with the 10speed cassette and bar end shifters
Then it was just gear cables
Oh trp brake levers £25
£189 was the cheapest I could find to put a more appropriate groupset on the cdf
