Offa's Byke - Prestatyn to Chepstow.

Obviously there's no shortage of decent N-S Wales rides but I thought I'd try something a bit different. 325km and 8000m of ascent.

Have you left yet?

What c2c would offer the best/most different return route?

Not yet, got to walk the dog first.

Any of the other routes would feel quite different to this Colin as they tend to take a path up the middle or westward. I will plot a return leg shortly but it'll likely end up forming something of a rectangle.

Be interesting to see the southern end of your route, BlackMountains / Monmouth / Lower Wye Valley. If you need any pointers or local knowledge just shout :-bd
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

I have a daughter in Cardiff, and if i ride down to see her i follow the Racing Collective XduroWales route. Its really great and may hold some alternatives?

XduroWales route
Doesn't that go more up the middle / over towards the west?

So Offa's Byke on the way down, WalesDURO in reverse for the way back...?

That is less than 1% gradient. I thought Wales was hilly?

I'm surprised it's that much given that it's downhill

When you passing through Stu?
The OD path ran through our garden till we had legally diverted about 5 years ago. If you need a place to pitch and have a shower, we’re about 6 miles south of Prestatyn.

Also. Are you following OD footpath throughout or looking for the best cycle-able. route?
Just that id avoid the fields near us unless you like energy sucking slow progress.

Guessing you’ve checked out Ride the Clwyds website? Denbighshire AONB unit added some permissive bridleways specifically to link up existing bike routes.

Looks a good route, be interested to see a gpx when it's ready. Nothing wrong with a route that has ascent levels for mortals!

Good name too!

Interested to see the first 20 - 30 miles heading south of Prestatyn as that's my manor. Straight in to the Clwyds Stu?
