Maps for Bear Bones and splash maps

Post by tommid »

First up, which maps will I need for Bear Bones in October?

Secondly, anyone tried a Splash Map? http://www.splashmaps.net/

I know Charlie the Bike Monger had spoken to them about making a Purbeck Coast map, is there an area we would like covered i.e Bearbones route and WRT route?

I was intrigued by the map and phoned the firm. A new map costs £100 to set up and then another 20 for the map itself.
The scale is 1:40,000 and the map is 72cm square. If anybody would like to work that out in square kilometres coverage I'd be happy to know the answer. My head hurts too much to think of trying it :) Apparently, the company can also 'layer' different information from the OS 1:50,000 to suit.
I'm thinking that the Western edge of home on the Eastern edge of the map, and rights of way and historical information showing would suit my wants.
Whether this will be acceptable alongside the new camera I am negotiating for the wife to buy me from her redundancy money is another matter.

Thanks for that. Square km's, I presume. When I first looked I thought it was a library book code

You asked for an answer in sq km's so I didn't put the units in ;)

Here's my working;
(0.72/(1/40))^2

Agree with DNF, a lot of cash for a small map...

Yes, only about 28Km across. I expect they have to pay a licence fee to OS but it makes a single map very expensive :o

Ok splash maps now seem a bit of a let down.

Can someone tell me which map(s) will I need for the Bear bones?

A custom OS map might just about cover the route, will try and find grid required but suspect you may miss a few km at the North or South of area. Until 24th June the following code will get you £3 off:

CMJUNE13

Could be the weekend before I get chance to look.

As Blackhound says, you'll miss off the top and bottom of a custom OS map.
