North by North West Parts 1 and 2, Audax meets bikepacking.

Post by composite »

The North by North West Parts 1 and 2 takes place 23rd May and Sunday 24th May 2020.

It's an Audax meets bikepacking type thing.

This is a 2 part Audax event (200km each day) with a bivi overnight. Bivi spot at Dales Cycle Centre is included in the entry fee, as is some food, which is £15 for each part of the ride, so £30 overall. In terms of normal Audax costs this is at the higher end of the cost range for a 200km event but still OK.

Anyone up for joining me on this? I would be happy to be "full value" and take the whole 14 hours time limit (for each day) if you are concerned about pace.

Recently completed my first audax tour this Saturday and just writing it up. That was only me biviing because it was a three hour ride from my flat and I didn't fancy waking up at 3:30. I live in Stroud so would be a double bivi holiday for me and need to get round for the last train at 8pm Sunday. Still game pretty much because of all the impracticality.

Not sure how good companion I would be. When riding I sort of don't like stopping for long at all, get food and water then get back on the bike to consume style. Would very much like riding to the first checkpoint on both days then however longer it lasts.

Glad to hear I am not alone in this crossover.

It's on the radar, but trying to do SR and trying to fit in Moors and Wolds 400 begining of May and 9 Counties 600 begining of June. Plus the family bit.
I think doing NbyNW and then 600km 2 weeks later is achievable and forget the 400

Just come up ride the Old 240 instead.

Bosh out the distance in a day, and ride on much more scenic roads around Yorkshire

That's a permanent right? If you were looking to do it Chew I would be up for it, but maybe run it as a DIY instead?

I used to be very much like this but I have chilled out a bit since Audaxing. On a 200 I would typically do a quick pitstop, as you describe, at 50km and 150km but roughly halfway I like to stop for a cafe lunch.

I'm calling it Brevetpacking. You heard it here first! I'm going to try to get it into the zeitgeist.

I rode it last year.
May do it again at some point, but not for a few years yet.
