Tuscany Trail or Veneto Trail?

Post by FLV »

Hi. Is anyone planning on going together of these?

I ride the TT last year, it was great. Very tempted to ride it again but also tempted by the draw of a new (to me) route.

Not sure which is the 'better' route, my preference leans a little towards a more mtb than gravel but no idea on what the Veneto is like.

Anyone done the Veneto or planning either?

ive been looking at the veneto trail as a possible this year. having done the tuscany trail before i think veneto will be flatter. its a loop aswell. think it will be more gravel than mtb tho.

Interesting, I was thinking the opposite that the Veneto might be more mtb

The Veneto Gravel route is mostly über flat but the Veneto Trail route is much hillier and more mountain bike territory.

I've ridden (sections of) the former 5 times now and love it!

I've heard the Veneto Trail route is fairly full-on but really good.

Little surprise that I'll be entering the TT again - my annual tradition of eating/drinking my way through stunning countryside on a bike looks set to continue :-bd

I'm doing Veneto this year. I had an entry and a flight booked last year but my business partner was sick so had to pull out at the last minute. really looking forward to it. That said TT is excellent too, and if i had time i would be doing both.

Ha, me too.

I'm on the fence but the fact that the TT means I can also do the Jennride if it falls early July as well is swinging it for me a little.

Ah, the classic 'we're not serving food but could do a bit of salad' which turned out to be one of the best seafood platters ever.

Thank you for putting this on my radar. I've always wanted to ride the Dolomites.

Both of these look fantastic options; I’m guessing TT is more gravel bike, VT more MTB?

Can’t beat Italian hospitality 🍕🍷

Yep, pretty much.

There's also the Veneto Gravel route/event which is VERY easy going and more road+ bike friendly (though I usually take 40c Nanos for comforts sake)

TT is certainly rideable on a Gravel bike. I took my rigid MTB though last year which I prefer for comfort. It was fine, only really slower due to gearing. I was definitely faster down the hills though. I used 2.3 rear 2.6 front 29er.
I'll take the mountain bike again this year but will likely put speedy tyres on though, make life that bit easier.

OK, just tried entering Tuscany Trail, and fallen at the first hurdle - medical certificate.

What have folks from the UK done about this in the past?

Thanks in advance.

In the past I've chosen to send later and then never bothered but I don't think that's an option any more.

For other events I usually just change the date on one I got years ago in Photoshop which is, I think, what I did this year.

Or you go the other way entirely and get one???

I like it!
Don’t expect anybody will check, just wonder if it could invalidate my travel / medical insurance, but can’t think why it would.

Have you used this form yourself?

I haven't. It was a thing you were supposed to have when I did it but nobody ever asked to see it.

It's purely so they can say they've taken steps to ensure everyone who signs up for their event is physically capable of doing it. It is nothing to do with your insurance. If you had a crash and needed medical care neither the medics nor your insurers would be asking to see a doctor's note.

NB - I have had very limited legal training and my words would carry negligible weight in the Italian justice system.

I fretted over this last year.
My doctor wouldn't do a 'certificate' but I ended up getting him to agree I was in good health and that there was no reason I couldn't take part in a cycle event. I then printed out the medical record, and had it stamped by the GP surgery.
After all that faffing I sent it off to the TT and heard zero back. No one checked at the start of the event or anything, no problems at all.

Craig, when we did the French Divide there was also a requirement for a medical certificate. Our doctor was happy (for a fee) to provide one. It was on headed notepaper and just stated "I know of no medical reason to prevent X taking part in this event" and was signed.
