:-bd just found train tickets from brum to glasgow march 23rd for £25. Iv got 11 days to ride home so i think it would be rude not to try this route home, well till the pbw on the outskirts of manc then use this to return to ashbourne. From there it will be a skip across cannock onto the canal and home.

Does anyone know how to book a bike with trainline.com? Do i need to phone them

It's not a divide in the classical sense, so you're right - strictly speaking it's misnamed. Think of it as "Second City Epic" if that helps.

Certainly in terms of football but capital cities rarely fall to the status of " second city"

I was thinking more in terms of population.

FWIW there is a good Wiki article on second cities. I'd never considered Liverpool or Dublin...

Ha , lived in Dublin for a while Colin and also in cork , cork is way bigger and the people there truly believe Dublin IS the second city. But when ever I tell people the Black Country is the cultural capital of the U.K. I just get sneered at  I can’t understand why

I thought Birmingham was a suburb of Walsall?

Of course Manchester is England's second City, followed by Sheffield in third. I've no idea why government and business favour London over the first city of Carlisle, but hey ho, keeps the Great Border City niche and alternative.
Anyone else thinking of the suggested group finish in September? Seems to me group finish is a better way to organise a sociable event than group start.

Can we form some sort of mutual 'non backing out' pack (even though we've never met). I need to stop life getting in the way of these things.

We can indeed.
My good lady wife is giving a kidney to a relative at some point this year, if she cant look after our due to this is the only thing will stop me.

I'll be doing it on my mtb too.

Mike... In trainline or however you booked it, find the train operator. Then check on the train operators website or whatever as to what protocol it is. It will either tell you phone or email them but by far twitter is generally the fastest. I just booked from Kings Cross to Wakefield for March and the operator is LNER. I just sent em a quick message via twitter and as if by magic a few minutes later I had a twitter e-note with my bike booking reservation.

Get in quick though Mike however you are gonna book the bike as theres sometimes a finite (is that the word! dunno... but you know what I means) number of places... Come to think of it limited would have worked but maybe that was me trying to be smart...

You might be wondering how to find your train operator. Click 'journey details'... Dont forgrt that if there is more than 1 train you will have to book via multiple portals.

If you dont have twitter then Stu does (but don't tell him I said that) and if that fails then feel free to PM your journey details and I'll input to twitter and get you some info back...
