Budget sleeping pad?

Post by ChrisF »

I know I might be expecting too much, but here goes.
I’m looking for an inflatable sleeping pad for my son. Needs to be lightish, say not more than 600/700g, lighter is better of course, full length (he’s 6’3”) and have a bit of insulation, say 2-3 season use, R value 3. He’s a backpacker more than a bikepacker so packed size not so critical. Here’s the hard bit, budget £60.

Thanks in advance.

cheap multimat type one* - next to no r value and then a foam mat under that [or between you and the pad not sure which would be the warmer option

Will be under budget but a bit of a compromise

when you say two seasons which two spring and summer or autumn and winter as that would not work for the later
* Its about £40 300 ish gramms and mine has been fine in use but its warm summer use only or camping with a much thicker sleeping bag - not sure i can quite recomend it but it is reasoably comfortable and has not burst in 5 years of intermittent use -20 nights ? its not my go to its my lend to bag
I have used it as my kids get my good ones in summer - its fine but a thermarest crinkly is much much warmer

Lazarus, 2-3 season I’m thinking spring - summer - autumn. Will have a look at multimat ones, Ta.

It's probably the best you'll get for that kind of money. Also nice to know that it has a 5 year warranty (Exped are good at that kind of thing), so in my mind, it's less 'disposable' than something cheaper.

Please note R values can be US ror SI and its SI [ as per stus one is 1.7 r value and its half the weight hence why you can add the foam pad,

Its tolerable for spring /summer/autumn/but i would want a[3-5 degree C] warmer than the weather sleeping bag to tbe certain unless it was very warm.

later is over the weight limit and stus is a better choice

I’m 6’3, a normal length mat is too short. I need a long version, particularly if I want to use a pillow

Similar but lighter and only £48 for black friday?

Not a recommendation, but someone might be able to say yay or nay as Im looking to replace my vango compact mat (which is heavier, only 3/4 length and 3cm thick and not all that compact when rolled up). Inactually find short mats fine with a pillow (drybag with clothes in), as the pillow goes on the ground not the mat?

consider the length of whatever you buy.
I'm 6'1" and the regular length pads i've had are only just long enough, depends how you sleep.

He’s used my standard (185cm) pad and he says it’s fine, he curls up a bit I think.
I’ve seen Borderer’s one for sale, but it’s a pressie for him so prefer to get a new one.
