Ay Up lights

Post by restlessshawn »

Out of interest anyone still using these? I have an ancient (350lm) set I still use for night running (prefer that to night cycling) and wondering about getting a new battery from them. It probably makes no sense and the money would be better spent on a new head torch but I'm quite attached to them.

maybe try MTB batteries, my support cell from them for my joystick is great and was much cheaper and higher capacity than the genuine article.

Yeah he does do them but no switch so you have to unplug them which seems a faff

what size connectors does it have? you might be able to get a plug in in-line switch.

this will do if it's a 2.1mm: https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/ ... ZqEALw_wcB

the best value for money is a cheap china light and a decent MTB Battery o r say an lightweight head unit like an exposire joystick. The price of lights and range *has dropped fantastically since you bought those but the cheap sets have gash batteries

I have a light without a swicth and thought it would annoy me but honeslty how often do you switch off your only light in the pitch dark?
In use it does not bother me

* i gt some £25 jobbies to use with the kids - good enough beam[exceptonal really at the price point] and light but about 2 hours battery life- the batteroes really are crap and that timerange did notlast formany charges . Batteries were replaced pretty sharpish

yeah I have a joystick for the bike, that I have maybe used twice!

I use the ayups for running

looks like any new battery I am at least half way or more to a newer light so may just do that when this one finally packs in

ayups might end up as a long run bar light if I ever need one as I have a conversion cable that will run them off a large magicshine type battery pack I have

Not having a switch on a headtorch is a bit of a pain as you can't turn it off easily if you need to talk to people without blinding them or not looking at them!

I believe exposure do a fetching headband for runners

https://www.evanscycles.com/exposure-jo ... d-00105893

[out of stock but shows how it attaches unlike others sites
So buy that and use your joystick

I have learnt to not look at them- its surprisingly difficult to do without forgetting

I missed that had only seen their fancy headtorches

might duct tape it to the side of my head and see how it might work at the side

Yes I gues its a bit long to easily mount to the top of your head without a helmet
I can think of solutions but all of them will look ludicrous - piping insulation is involved to both hold and protect

still use mine on the helmet and bars, you have to order from Australia I didn't have to pay anything extra for a bty, they also sent a light foc which is diffused, the cheap chink one's I had were great but the bty's didn't last long and could explode while charging, scott is out there maybe worth having a word with him
it's not that I can and others can't, it's that I will and others won't.
