The 2020 Yorkshire Dales 300 & 200 event

Post by yorkshirebiking »

The Yorkshire Dales 300 and 200 is back for 2020.
The YD300 remains unchanged from the 2018 route. 300 km of pure Dales classic trails.
For 2020 the YD200 will be a 200-mile road route. Attempt it non stop, bike pack style or book some accommodation.

Please click on the link for a short video explaining a few things in a bit more detail and route downloads and info. https://riderscyclecentre.com/yd300-200-itt/
I hope you can join me next year for the Riders Cycle Centre 2020 YD 300/200 ITT. Cheers.

Very interested in this.

One point - the date isn't on the linked page and I had to click through to Eventrbrite to find it.

It was more that I scrolled up and down the page 4 or 5 times looking for the obvious (but ultimately missing) information. It's called feedback. I guess if you've no involvement in creating the page then it's irrelevant.

That's a fairly empty time of the year for me so I'm up for it (especially after letting Stu down last year and cancelling at the last minute). YD300 with a bivvy I think. Want to see the scenery as it's luvverly

Pretty sure Jase said that the YD is more gruesome than the bearbones (like for like weather I assume he meant).. is that true or is it probably something I misunderstood (maybe he was talking of one of the other groupstart ITTs...)

Anyone care to comment  please

Either scotsroutes has crashed it by frantic refreshes looking for the date or its down to add the date due to helpful user feedback

I was talking to Stuart about it before he settled on a date and we came to the conclusion that it's tougher than we think it is (if that makes sense :???: ) as they are our local trails and we are used to them so don't see the wearing down that unknown trails brings.

The MTB YD200s, i.e. the ones in kilometres, were definitely easier than the BB200s I've done. The YD300 is probably slightly easier than the Cairngorms Loop and about the same as the BB300 if we base difficulty on finishing times. There's no hike-a-bike on the YD300, in fact there's really only one really technical descent, and in isolation probably every bit is rideable by most riders. But some of the climbs can feel interminable: heading up the Roman Road from Bainbridge is one https://www.strava.com/segments/4418050, only 5% but it's over 7km long and being a Roman Road is dead straight so you just never seem to get to the end, it will likely take over an hour to climb it.

Here's a couple of my blog posts about the YD300:

@Lazurus :lol:

I’ve did the 300 a few years back more or less in one go (short nap in a deck chair outside a closed cafe at 6am). It was a week after the HT550, so quite close in terms of being on form, but it went to plan.
It’s hard due to distance and amount of climbing, but not hard in the same way BB200/300 is. Bogs are notable by their absence, and a lot of it is good stoney track / singletrack. Rough in many places, but very rideable.

Edit: Bob’s memory is clearer than mine. I’ve done the YD300 twice, originally as per the blog linked above (singlespeed) and later post HT550 (geared, in 27 hours something)

That was my impression. Thanks for confirming. Do you know what sort of range completion times are in?

Not completely sure about the YD300, something like 19hrs - 40hrs. The 19hrs was Chris Hope around the time when he did the CL in 21hrs or thereabouts as well as a fast time (16hrs?) on the Lakeland 200 so gives a rough indication of the relative difficulty.

Entered. It'll give me a reason to keep exercising over the Winter rather than do my usual put my bike into hibernation and eat cake training regime.
