Permission to speak freely... granted... ok, ta...
Sorry for asking a dsfty but... in the entry page process it asked for dietary requirements... is that something for after the riding is done or is it indeed preride... ie. Is there gonna be breakky?

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
What are people who are hoping to ride through (but accepting they might end up needing a power nap!) taking for shelter?
I packed a lightweight bivy, but looking at the forecast I’m curious how many of you are carrying a tarp as well.

That’s okayredefined_cycles wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 8:58 pmI've got 3 quick release zipties on my bike... Happy to bring a few more if you want a few... if that helps (for ziplocking dash n grab duties at Spar/Coop)...
Have a camelbak rucksack with me
Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
If rain riding through why take a tarp??
You won’t use it, so it’s extra weight.
Have a outdoor research helium bivi and a two season sleeping bag
If I use either something has gone very wrong
Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Cheers, I’ve packed a phd minimus and Mountain equipment ion bivi I bought of stu recently. Not a fan of bivi bags on their own in heavy rain, but like you really hoping not use it.
Just wanted to see if if the rain had changed anyone’s sleep kit plans as I was starting to waver!

Rather than 'good luck', here's wishing everyone 'skill, judgment, and derring-do'. One salutes you, especially the 1st timers

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
53 riders made it out into the sunshine - yep really. That's a lower number than expected and perhaps the lowest turnout for quite some years. However, plenty of smiles and good spirits, hopefully enough to carry them all through.

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Having seen this years route (on the Spotwalla link) I might have been more tempted to make it down again this year. I was through some of those areas many years ago (by car) so a pedal round would have been interesting.
As it happens, my van is currently u/s so I wouldn't have made it down anyway.

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Live up date from the Mawddach Trail.
At 1pm I put my pack raft in the Mawddach river and paddled to Barmouth under the rain and BB200 route bridge.
I faffed for an hour in between heavy down pours and now back I'm on the Mawddach Trail on my bike heading back to Penmaenpool at the junction where the BB200 joins it.
I've seen no one, not any of the BB300 riders who set off at first light, none of the racing snake BB200'ers. No one.
Looks like it's a tough route to get to the halfway point.
Expect swearing.
Weather update, no wind, high grey clouds and no rain at the moment.
Johnclimber over and out, see you at the finish in the morning

They'll all still be battling the Bugeilyn slough of despond! It's dead good this 'live update' facility, you need some way of doing a live video link John then it would be just like 'World Of Sport' or 'Grandstand' for the rest of us geriatric viewers at home sat here watching avidly with our tea and cucumber sandwiches.

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
Looking at the tracking page it appears that Alex (depart 8.15ish) is just about to start the descent into Barmouth. Hopefully he'll be refueling as there's very little to be had afterwards.
A stiff climb out of Barmouth followed by some nice trails, followed by another climb ... they appear to be a feature.

Wouldn't be surprised to see an all time record BB200 time assuming spirits stay up.
BB300 too, but that doesn't really count.

Raining hard in Barmouth. Eating pizza.
Bugeilyn was great, rode 98% of it
Ps. Rear brake totally borked. Was dodgy when I left, got it working a bit better part way through, now doesn’t work at all. Decent to Arthog undertaken carefully with front brake and clenched buttocks...

So would I.
The riding is good, but it’s not fast.

Re: Bb200 Waffle Thread.
You didn't see the 200 rider on 14h pace though...
Unless there's a massive sting in the tail.
That said, he looked fairly tired, so it's quite likely he slows significantly.
