How many spare tubes do you carry?

Post by Ray Young »

I have always carried two spare tubes but was wondering how many the weight conscious of you out there carry and do the tubeless brigade carry a spare?

Two for me too, might also add in a repair kit :o

My repair kit reads
-2 tubes
-Multi-tool
-Pump
-3 tyre levers
-Mozzie repellent and sun-cream (both sit in my bag all year)
-First aid kit

Tubeless, 2x spare tubes and an aerosol of goop. Will save the patching for when I get home. I might go and search a patch kit out now though...

Wouldn't say I'm weight concious but I only ever carry one spare tube and a load of patches to keep me amused on a night.

Never trashed a tube yet so more than one seems like overkill.

One and a repair kit. I once managed to rip the valve off a tube by pumping too hard and had to repair the original punctured one. I now much prefer pumps that have a wee hose of some sort.

1 and a repair kit, if I was on my own I would take 2 probably.

All have 30ml of stans no tubes fluid in them, biggest risk as has been mentioned is busting a value when pumping a tyre up.

Two and a repair kit, unless I'm only out for an hour or so. I'd had too many double punctures or un-repairable snakebites to only carry one. I punctured both tubes on the same rock on my way to work the other week.

I did a race many years ago and unknown to the organisers a farmer had recently trimmed a blackthorn hedge along a dirt lane about half a mile into the route. To say it caused chaos is a massive understatement. The fast boys were furious as they hit it first and picked up multiple punctures in both tyres forcing them to drop out, the slower guys coming across the chaos were now forwarned and ran the section carrying their bikes.

Running tubeless, carry 2 tubes and repair kit
Overkill maybe but had a tyre split before so need something for each wheel should problem exist
I run stans so also carry spare valve cores too, as Ive bust the top bit off before removing the pump

As its falls into the categorys of 'could stop you riding' if you get problems, I make sure every eventuallities are covered. For the sake of a few grams its peace of mind

1 tube, a patch kit, a tyre boot and 1 plastic lever

This is one of the things that has detered me from tubeless as I would feel I needed 2 spare tubes

I use a Leyzne pump that attaches by a tube, much easier on the valve

I ended up doing the walk of shame for a mile home last summer. Carried 2 tubes but one of them was a 20" spare tube for the kid's bikes and the other was a schrader for my presta rim. That'll teach me for not checking properly when I put them in my saddle pack.

I've seen the handle of a q/r axle used as an effective tyre lever...
