Food-what are you taking?

Post by voodoo_simon »

I always get this wrong, generally too much and the wrong type!

I'm thinking of a freeze dried meal as a backup if the pub or cafes are closed, several energy bars and some sweets. Is there anything lightweight that I can add for some savoury snacks?

Whats everyone else doing for food?

I am completely self sufficent when I head out so quite a bit, breakfast and meals are all packed in pour and store bags ready to just add water.

2 x breakfast (porridge oats, chia seeds, muscavdo sugar)

2 x evening meals (cous cous, dried veg, pinenuts, pack of olives) and (veggie bolonese pack and instant potato)

2 x frys peppermint cream for desert

1 x emergency pack of noodles

11 various bars (halva, nakd, sesame snaps)

1 x packet skittles

1 x kendle mint cake just in case I manage to eat everything else

250ml rum ;)

That's 1962g in food and rum :o

I'm just bringing whatever I pick up in the tesco, etc that I pass on the way and a few cereal bars and gels raided from home. If I end up at a pub somehow, all the better though.

Hopefully a pub meal Saturday evening and breakfast in Aber on Sunday morning. Also might have to pick up some stuff in Aber on Sunday for that night's meal depending on where I end up the day before.
Because I don't know if I will make the pub or what will be available on route I will carry-
Muesli with sugar/powdered milk x 2 in pour n store bag.
Savoury rice x 1 ( in pour n store) with packet tuna x 1
Packet noodles x 1( cook quick/pack small and good for after main meal/breakfast if your still hungry or hot daytime snack).
Packet instant custard in pour n store
Cereal bars (crumble into custard for pudding)
Dried fruit/nuts or peanut m n m's or jelly babies.
Tea bags and powdered milk/sugar.
A few gel bars courtesy of Stu.

I'm taking quick cook pasta and pesto x 2, freeze dried camping meals x 2, plenty of home made flapjacks, porridge for breakfast, sachets of 3 in 1 coffee x 4, energy gels and may grab a cheap meal in Aberystwyth. I'm hoping to have enough to be self sufficient though.

2 * porridge (home made in pour & store bags)
2 * wayfayrer meals (something to fall back on if I don't reach my pub/cafe targets)
packet of peparami
handful of cereal bars
couple of bags of sweets

Water will be one 500ml water bottle and a travel tap

Plan will be to eat in cafe's & pubs when I can, these are more for backup or supper in bed! 8-)

Learning from last year it's about 5kg less in weight !!!!!
Wait for me...

Im only doing the lite version and am carrying the following:-

1 x Porridge pouch
1 x Savory rice with pre cooked meat (not decided yet)
2 x pasta in sauce
1 x Supernoodles
1 x Soup sachet thing
1 x Instant Custard
Several flap jacks to eat on the go and to stick in the custard for a bit of a boost.
Ill also have some sweets with me too.

Im not sure what route to take yet, but if i go with the one Chew sent through, where i end up in some quite remote locations, i may carry some additional food with me.

Water wise im carrying 1 x 750ml bottle and a travel tap.

Zog, I think you'll find you have plenty of food with that lot. Secret is to snack throughout the day to keep energy levels up.

some good ideas there, shame i dont like porridge :( Mightbuy some and mix it up with chocolate chips

Forgot to add my own energy mix to my list
-chop jelly babies into thirds and leave to dry overnight (stops it being sticky)
-add it to mixed nuts and dired fruit

Probably the easiest recipe ever and the mix of salty nuts with the jelly babies give a good taste with (hopefully) a mix of slow/fast energy :D
