I would have just replied
"Ah, OK. Mug of tea and a bacon butty please" :-bd
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Also, I'd love to see them prove in a legal setting that they told you this and you confirmed that you'd both understood and accepted this, and therefore they had passed on the liability :lol:

Hint: there is absolutely NO way they could.

How very STW :roll:

I reckon In Reverse has it about best.

I imagine* the cafe owner has been advised by their insurers to give the warning or even that some advice from their insurers has been interpreted to mean they should. You could imagine* the poor old cafe owner / manager hasn't got a bloody clue about H&S, liability and all that stuff and is just thinking "sub standard, by premium's rocketing, I'll do whatever they say to avoid it going up / increasing anymore".

I'd avoid feeling too unwelcome and upset about it as I doubt anyone intended to do so, much. Life demands a bit of thick skin sometimes. Though where would all the poor show on STW come from if we all had that, eh :wink:

As for being in construction and it bestowing expertise in H&S I would, with the greatest of respect as someone who also works in the same sector, mention it's one of the most detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of workers, not least topping the table for annual fatalities*** including such exotic and unusual causes that are oh so difficult to predict and manage (e.g. "falls from height" and "struck by vehicle"):

M'lord: http://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/pdf/fatalinjuries.pdf **

So holding it up as a paragon of virtue is somewhat questionable :cool: :wink: Which doesn't mean you aren't great and safe, of course :cool:

* OK, guess

** lies, lies and damned statistics

*** not the same as fatal injury rate, where it's third.

Surely the response is to simply nod and then ignore?
