Don't forget, there's much more to Wales than trail centres

Yeah, your right by Barry Island at the moment. Surely that is on your itinerary?Bearbonesnorm wrote:Don't forget, there's much more to Wales than trail centres

Re: Wales
I can't believe how dry it has been this week. Mudless trails. If this keeps up, I won't need a shower this month.
Just spent a few days riding around Afan. C-y-B tomorrow then up to Snowdonia.

Re: Wales
If you're heading from Afan to CyB then a stop off at Nant-yr-Arian trails is well worth it
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry

Re: Wales
I have mixed views on trail centres, I have a conflict of interest as the existence of both Nant yr Arian and the Mach trails were partly due to my activity. My riding when I spent most weekends in Devils Bridge involved using bits of NyA to get out into the hills around Nant y Moch then looping back through Ponterwyd. Maybe only using trail centres evokes similar sentiments to " I like Sainsbury's, it keeps the riff-raff out of Waitrose."
Re: Wales
Another TRAIL CENTRE today. C y B. Loved it. I was tempted to build a big fire and post a pic on here
A bit of drizzle but dryish trails. Bike shop was closed.
Snowdonia now. Planning a bike-a-night on the summit. Dilemma - bivi bag = up late, down cold. Tent = up whenever, down whenever, a book, lots of tea but extra weight.
I was thinking - up Crib Goch, but if I slip, then I might scratch the bike
So I might opt for the more extreme railway route.
Any recommendations for bivi spots - not near the cafe?
I would like to camp near that lake with sword in it, but then the riding would suck.

Up Llanberis and down Rangers. You'll find some spots to overnight once you start to descend ... remember, sleeping next to water will usually be colder.

There's a bit of snow and ice up there after today's weather. 'The lake with the sword in it' is Llyn Padarn which is the one at Llanberis, There's plenty of spots to wild camp on the mountain and the boardwalk on the west side of the cafe is a good spot for a bivvy but it'll be baltic atm.
Last Saturday morning was nice though
