Spring Photo Comp - we have a winner!
Brothersmith has spoken ... the 'theme' for the next photo comp is 'Back in the day'.
I'm hoping to see lots of peakless hemets with dayglo covers, purple bar ends and arses rubbing on back tyres. So, post up your pics and transport us back in time!
Entries will close when everyone's had enough

unfortunately the earliest photo i've got is from about '97 and so i'll not bother finding/scanning/uploading it.

Cheers! Come to think of it those bars look narrow enough to grace a fixie! :D

Here's a pic of me at the top of Pole Bank, circa 1996 I think.
Beth (circa 1996) by ianbarrington, on Flickr
Bike is a GT Pantera with a selection of parts from the Mid 90's: Rockshox Quadra 21r's, AC Cranks, USE seatpost, Onza bar ends, original Crud Catcher, original Camelbak, and out of shot a very expensive (at the time) WTB roller cam brake 8-)

A slightly different take on the theme for this one.
For me, back in the day meant XC races, and in the early 90's the nearest event to me was the Malvern Classic. Here's a picture of my mate Ben doing the infamous lake jump on a Kona Fire Mountain, full Deore DX I think and a straight bar barely wider than his shoulders - as was the trend at the time
Shot on a 35mm Pentax ME Super using Ilford XP2 film.

Re: Spring Photo Comp.
Scott AT4s! I had the slightly curvier ones on the Scott Montana I had before the Kona. On the forward sections you could storm up hill. As my rosé tinted memories recall.
Re: Spring Photo Comp.
I didn't wear lycra back in the day and was generally the only rider who carried a camera so was usualy behind the shutter. Anyway, here's one from my 1989/1990 tour of the Eastern Med, sleeping out in a park in Israel with a German and Aussie who I'd met on the ferry over from Greece. (That's me in the stripey T-shirt and the homemade cycling shorts blinking for the flash)...

I have no photos of the purple trek 930 but still wear the purple buff on site if the weather is warm enough...

Re: Spring Photo Comp.
Finally scanned this old pic but seem to be having issues posting it ... Anyway, this is as far "back in the day" as I can go. Brisbane 1976. This was widely regarded as the coolest bike on the block.

I'm just going outside ...
Re: Spring Photo Comp.
Dug out some old pictures when we first started mountain biking the other day and thought I would add this one.
Coed Y Brenin back in 1997. No fancy trail centre back then, think there was a porta cabin though.
Bought my first decent bike for £500!!!! A GT RTS full susser. I loved that bike.

Not sure why I have the open mouth. Probably fear in those days!
No fancy gear in those days either. Standard shorts and walking boots!

OK, that was strange. I voted for ***** (I don't think it's right to vote for your own - so I didn't)...and when I clicked show results button, it said 0 votes. :?s8tannorm wrote:Voting open here: http://bearbonesbikepacking.blogspot.co.uk/

Re: Spring Photo Comp - let's do some voting
Congratulations to Ian on winning the Spring photo comp.
We're going to depart from the usual format and instead there'll be thread devoted to the pictures you believe best sum up your personal 2013 ... it'll be along shortly and there'll even be a real prize

Thank you. Technically, Beth won that one as she posted it up, though it was off my Flickr account.s8tannorm wrote:Congratulations to Ian on winning the Spring photo comp.
