Food for a 3 Day Trip
I have a 3 day trip coming up where there wont be access to any resupply for 3 days.
Any ideas on what to take?
Dont want to carry loads, but looking for something tasty and filling

Not heavy, quick and easy to make. If you pop it in a pour and store and add some pre-cooked bacon, sausage or whatever, it's both tasty and filling.

couscous
noodles
pot noodles
pasta dishes
instant mash
rice packets
mug shots
Powdered milk + Muesli- add water to soak overnight to make bircher muesli
all of those are just add water, available in supermarkets and fairly lighweight
you can also get a dehydrator and just dehydrate your own foods

I'd agree with the mash...add almond flakes or crushed cashews and cut up some chorizo.

Porridge or müsli for brekkers. I mostly go for a müsli that can be enjoyed cold or warm/hot.
So basically a pre-made müsli, whole milk powder and some tsampa.
During the day I go for a mix of salty food and sweet stuff.
Nuts (coated, often macadamia), crisps (yes, crisps), saussage, dried meat, cheese, crackers, M&Ms, bars (easy and deli homemade), small tarts, dried fruits.
For supper it's pretty much what has already been posted, often followed by 50 g chocolate or something similar.
I really like Nissin's soba noodles, two packages are about 200 g, serve about 950 kcal and can be soaked in warm water for 1-2 h close to the body should you forget fuel for the stove or want to save more weight.

Hahah! We'll be eating at the pub(s). :)
And now, back on topic...if you're out in the boonies and it's hot, if you need chocolate, M&Ms are the way forward. Messy melted food is a faff. Jelly Tots are good too.

Any ones to recommend?
Was there an offer code going at some point?
Will probably get a few of these, plus a few mash type things and supplement with meats/cheese.

Ohh I hadn't considered that before - Can you make that in the packet it comes in, so it doesn't need a pan?Bearbonesnorm wrote:Don't forget custard, instand powdered custard ... just remember your water needs to be boiling in order for it to thicken ... hhm custard

Not the packet it comes in Mart but no need for a pan either ... just empty contents of packet into a 'pour and store' bag and take that with you. Boil water in mug, pour into the bag, a good ol' stir and eat. Dropping a couple of mini apple pies in is an added bonusOhh I hadn't considered that before - Can you make that in the packet it comes in, so it doesn't need a pan?

Pour & store bags?
What are these? Is it just a new name for freezer/sandwich/gorp zip bags or are they different?

They come under a few brand names but are all the same. They're thicker than freezer bags and are designed to handle hot / boiling liquid, so you can rehydrate directly in them, then eat from them. They're also reuseable and will stand up.Pour & store bags?

Re: Food for a 3 Day Trip
They are very similar to a normal zip-lock bag but more heat proof and a bit tougher as they are designed to be used with hot food, but most importantly they have the shaped bottom like you get on commercial freeze-dried outdoor food so they will stand up on their own.
Edit, Stu beat me to it. And I buy mine is Sainsbury's despite living in the south they even have their own brand ones

Re: Food for a 3 Day Trip
Thanks for updating me. Something new to buy & try. It will make a nice change from buying a tent or tyre.
In France now, so will try to here.
