setting track width on etrex 30

Post by tanadog »

Hi

I have trouble seeing the track on my etrex when I'm on the move, mostly irrespective of what colour track I use. What I'd really like is to be able to increase the width of the line of the track but I can't work out how to do this.

I realise some folks might not like a big fat line covering detail on their map, but I'm just looking for a result where I can glance down at my gps whilst riding and see the cursor is on the track.

When I change it in Basecamp, the changes don't transfer over to the gps device. Suggestions??

I'm no expert but I'm not sure you can change it, as far as I'm aware, it's colour of line and that's it.

Can't change it on my 20 , I just zoom in to 300 m and it makes the line nice and big ,really I should wear my glasses but I've not quite hit the age in my head where it's time to put specs on

I have a Garmin Montana 610 and Oregon 700
Haven’t seen any option to change track width.
Thought many times would be useful to change the width.

I struggle with this in my oregon. The only way around is to zoom out to see the line and then zoom back in again after

Is this using OS Maps? Although I love them to look at, I find they're a bit "busy" for spotting your track. some of the OSM versions are better as they are less cluttered. On my Oregon I have various map sets installed and use each according to what's best at the time.

Never one to miss the opportunity for an Extrex 20x question.
Recently had reason to ride through the night and although my Exposure Joystick lit up the Etrex display and made it more visible than to the naked eye in daylight, I did wonder if there was a way of setting the backlight of the Extrex so that it is on all the time, albeit at a low setting as I realise battery consumption would be increased.

@Padonbike - presuming the 20x is like the 20, if you press the 2nd button on the right, then use the joystick to adjust your backlight, you can set it one level above zero and you'll probably still need your Joystick. I run mine like this with a 15 second switch off and just knock the GPS joystick to light it up.

No idea about track width though. I just zoom in to around 80ft to figure out where I'm going.

You can tweak the ‘size not scale’ of the map if you use the free open Mtb maps.

I use them on my etrex fircthat exact reason.

cheers for all that, although it's annoying there's not an easy solution, it's good to know I'm not missing something. From reading a few forums it seems that track widths used to be wider but the software was changed about 10 years ago.

I use most of the work-arounds as mentioned above....
