Will be posted tomorrow reg last night shift tonightRIP wrote:... with me rail tickets for a sort-of-C2C jape in August. Ride from Port Carlisle to Tynemouth via Alston and Consett. Wonder if that cheeky barn with straw is still there from last year. Train from Milton Keynes to Carlisle and back - £17 each way, insanely good value. Even more bonkers is £3, yes the princely sum of THREE QUID, for Newcastle - Carlisle.
All I need now is those nice extra tarp Y-pegs that 'Madness kindly offered me .

Uhm, I come from a family of engineers / fabricators, with a few past coded welders amongst them. While I can weld, my old man used to say, "Don't tell anyone you can weld, you can't, you simply join bits of metal together"A grinder makes me the welder I ain't
May the bridges you burn light your way

A Chief Engineer I once worked for got chased out of the assembly shop for referring to some welding as rabbit turds.
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

My code is due a refresher in September and to be honest my backside is like a rabbits nose over it as i too have only been sticking 2 pieces of metal together ,since I swapped jobs , now the boss has decided it's good to have someone with a ASME 9 cert even though at the most all I do now is stick a couple of bits of chassis rail together

Good job I didn't call you a "scholar and a gent" or that would have confused things even further.
And of course, to clarify, I meant Stu there, not Stu .

I got a new hat today. My old one gave up the ghost last weekend at Stonor Supercar Sunday. I know wearing a panama marks me out as a pretentious middle class douche but I'm starting to suspect that is what I actually am.

Thing is, about cars, I just need mine to be comfortable, get Radio 4, start every morning and be able to tow my caravan and two horses in a box ... I really don't care what it looks like. My boy is heavily into motors though, and bullied me into taking him to the car show. It was mostly Ferrari and Lambos. Which are spectacular, but just about money. But in amongst them, every now and then, there was an utter gem, which was about love. Like this:

Nice hat Tim. Reckon you should wear that on all your bivi bike trips instead of a lid. Would lend a certain stylish air to the proceedings I feel.

And brought.....stuff for the kids, a wizzy guitar effects pedal for son number one. He delighted Mrs D by learning David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust almost note for note after one lesson. Git ! While I was a relatively decent bass player I had to work REALLY hard, son just coasting
Myself? Just a blow torch to free a stuck bolt on the calliper mount on the motor. Boringly there is nothing I actually want or need for the bike or setup. I’m not sure if this is good or bad come to think of it I’ve actually reduced my kit....must think of something to buy, suggestions welcome

I rushed out to the back garden. Felt like I was part of an artists impression of a music festival as the sky was lit up in fantastic ways followed by a great rumbling of thunder that wobbled my mat. Super cool! Finally had the chance to test out my tarp rigging skills in rough conditions after all this boring nice weather. Can report that I did not get wet

The post brought a pair of wolf tooth pliers - I love the fact quick links fit in the handle so you can carry a spare 11spd and a spare 10spd in there. Some Wolf Tooth headset spacers.
And my new style Cumulus 250 quilt arrived too. Very light and I like the amendments to it. Looking forward to using it.

Am impressed if you were actually tarping in that Ben - any artyfarty lightning-flashing-over-your-bivvy pics to share with us? A wobbly mat sounds quite fun in some indefinable way - like a water bed bivvy or something.

No pictures of lightening as it was too quick for me. I do however have the arty farty prints from the WRT including a spooky one of the Mawddach estuary as the temperature inversion rises like a sea of ghosts
