More 'soft' stickers on the way.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

The very popular 'soft' stickers ran out some time ago but I can confirm that a new batch (in a new exciting colour-way) are on the way. To further increase the excitement, there's some new, never seen before stickers coming too. Both will be available in exchange for an SAE :-bd

How feasible is a “stop being soft” steerer top cap?

Has there ever been a “stop being soft” badge?

The BB coffers don't run deep. Unlike most establishments, there's no sponsors / advertisers, so the only money that comes in, is the kind and generous donations from 'boners'. Top caps would need to be pre-ordered / payed for and they always seem very expensive for what they are (IMO). However, there may be a cheaper source out there, so I'll take a look.

No. I suppose the idea was that a sticker would be something you could see when times were tough

I don’t think th donate button works, I’ve tried several times and it either just spins or comes up with an error

I’d be more than willing to pay up front for a topcap. That one will be staring you in the face in times of despairation!

Top caps are another example of (non) standards in the bike industry. I think I've four different types of top cap, the accompanying bolts are specific to each type even when apparently looking the same.

A quick search for laser etching machines looked like they cost around £100 but those won't do metal, £400 and up for one that will. That's a lot of money to recoup along with a stock of each type of top cap. Would be much easier to find an etching service and send the top caps there along with the graphic. If Stu/Dee produced the graphic for sale, anyone wanting to pimp their cap (ooerr missus) could send it off themselves.

I had some custom top caps made up before Xmas. It was a secret Santa thing. Not cheap!

Can't say I've had any issues with top cap standards. I've never owned a Giant though.

Seems okay this end Steve.

RE" Top caps - what might work, is if I gave the artwork to one of the custom cap companies and they made them available to order directly from their website?

There is something nice about a message on your top cap to keep you going- mine was a present from my other half and says 'hey Mat, shall we cycle up a massive hill today?'. That was the morning refrain each day on the first big mountain biking trip we did together. Mine came from kapz I think.

I would definitely buy a stop being soft top cap- not for me but for a friend who has just started riding singlespeed!

Before I proceed down this road tomorrow, can I just check and make sure that people would really pay nearly £25 for a top cap? That would be full colour BTW as the design doesn't lend itself to the cheaper engraved caps.

I think the sticker would work well over the top cap and cut a hole for the bolt....Bloody damn sight cheaper an all...

How Much???? Thought nearer a fiver would be the going rate, sadly out of touch.
Think Mike may be on to something.
My SAE will be winging its way to you soon.
Thanks for investigating, any road up.

I might be able to etch writing or a line drawing into an anodised top cap - I'll have a play with my school's laser cutter on Tuesday and see if it works.

Engraved caps are cheaper (although still not cheap) but really, they'd be limited to just lettering with no image. As Mike says, your existing cap + sticker could be the way forward

I'd be interested in a nice little stack of the stickers for all of my bikes, the kids bikes, many various signs on the top of Cols and the local pub toilet etc...

Hows about a SAE and a donation to the cause?

Ouch. I must admit I'd had 15 in mind, 20 at absolute the outside (I thought the picture design would be more expensive, but not that much more).

Is it the shading on the bear that needs the colour?

No, the shading or number of colours makes no difference to price. I noticed some of the caps they sell cost over £70

£30 for something like this

Image

I guess an outline of the BB bear would work

That's the type with no visible bolt, so a bit more expensive.
