Heated Grips

I'm sure there are enough tinkerers on here that may be able to come up with a solution.

I have a friend that has Raynauds and can suffer quite badly in winter. For the use on a drop bared bike where pogies dont seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas of how to potentially make some heated grips that work around the edges of the bars and run off some kind of battery?

My motorbike has heated grips (previous owner). They're 12v and running off the bike but you might be able to cannibalize some?

I had a friend who once made some for his motorbike but I'm no idea how I'm afraid but they did work so it can be done diy style. Would heated gloves be more efficient as the grips would need to be powerful enough to warm the hand through the glove? And would a less insulated glove be required for the heat to get through? No experience of them but heated gloves are available.

Heated grips on motorcycles are one of the worlds great inventions

You can get heated over wraps which might be easier ( one grip would be sized to fit the throttle tube on standard heated grips)

Watching with interest.

I seriously struggle in the winter months to put time in on the bike once the temperature drops due to poor circulation in my hands, its virtually impossible to heat them up once they've gone.

I've previously looked at some of the motorbike specific kit but its always looked quite bulky.

Was thinking of giving this a go as they'd work quite well as a liner glove.

I used to have a pit of thin slim liner gloves that had ceramic partials attached to them. They were amazing as every time your fingers or hands touched another part, they generated heat.

The cheapo bodge for motorbike heated grips was to put a couple of light bulbs in the end of each bar (filament bulbs obviously) so could be worth a shot with a low V bulb? You'll need a big amp hour battery to get a decent amount of life out of them.

Another option might be handwarmers placed on the back of hands in gloves - used to fly a paraglider and during winter it was the only way I could keep my hands warm. I used the 'hothands' ones from Amazon

Interesting this. I would say options are:
- heated gloves. I have some EXO2 kit for my motorbike, you can get battery packs for it. Works pretty well
- drop bar pogies, they're available but pricey
- more insulated grips?
- hand warmers on the back of your gloves - petrol styles ones like the zippo, disposable ones or electric ones
- wrist warmers, I find I was getting really cold hands as the wind was cooling my wrists when riding my road bike. I get cold hands quite easily

Are they on medication for this Chew? Dee has a friend who suffers badly but she takes tablets for it now and it's made a real difference.

Other tips:

Eat & drink well.
Grips appropriate to hand size, possibly on the larger size so hands aren't having to squeeze so much.
Not just wrist warmers but arm warmers to keep the circulation flowing.
