Resolutions?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Anyone got any New Years resolutions they'd care to share?

I won't be having any ... there's so many things I ought to do that I'll not end up doing any of them

I want to use my hammock more than I did this past year and with the amount of rain and flooding we've had it's probably not a bad idea to get off the floor a bit.

More bothy trips too.
I've recently found another half dozen or so non-MBA bothies which is quite exciting!

Whilst the wifes not working I hope to get a couple of midweek trips in too.

And eat less.

Spend less money on gear

Ride more - January kicks off with a challenging target of riding 1000 miles in a month.

After today at Llandegla, I have to stop going to trail centres
In my mind, time on the bike is always time well spent
but not today :( it's just upset me and made me more resolute to change what, where and with whom I choose to ride with

Hated most of it, crowded, weekend warrior fuckwits posing around the cafe on the latest must haves
Groups of 50+ riding groups knobbing about with dogs running alongside on the trails, getting other people crashing. Nothing to see but trees. Following a path around for a couple of hours. I could go on ......... and on

Give me some solitude, scenery, a proper goal for the day, company of good close friends, opportunity to stop and take photos, logistics of being self sufficient etc. This is something I must so more of in the coming year

Signed Mr Grumpy ( ......and breath)

I signed up for the cancer research Dryathalon, go the whole of January without alcohol and raise sponsorship cash for them. £50 promised so far.
I also want to get out on more day rides, something I have been struggling with a bit of late.

I've done Hogmany to Burn's night without drinking the last couple of years, it's quite a good detox!

Resolutions wise,
sleep outside atleast 1 night every month
run a half marathon
try yoga

Lose a shed load of weight!

Getting a bit fed up of in now, gone from running long distances, climbing rocks and being quick on a bike to being proper slow and quite rubbish.

If I turn up to 2013 WRT still a fat b'stard then feel free to take the p!ss and punch me.

Nice!

I'm planning on taking note of my mileage each month next year - it'll be interesting to see what it comes out at (very different to naming a goal and trying to reach it I imagine).

Get my eldest daughter out on the trails, I think she has the confidence for it one :D

Get the spaniel trail running and biking too :D

1st - Not really a resolution for this year but I really want to do the TD at some point.

I've entered the highland trail race and this years target is to do myself proud in that, then continue to progress throughout the year.

2nd - Bivvy a month minimum.

1. Do at least one bivi per month

2. Do more waterbourne bivis. Did one canoe bivi this year but the seakayaking ones got cancelled due to bad weather.

3. Get around to making a framebag.

4. ......and a proper handlebar harness.

5. Bake bread in a Trangia.

6. get a cheap train ticket/hitch a lift somewhere up country and cycle back on my Airnimal folder sleeping out under the stars.

7. Bike packing Bergen to Oslo (or loop starting and finishing Oslo) probably late summer.

In 2013 I'm also going sell my boat which I never use and buy a Kayak of some sort.

Also on the bread front, baking man bread is ace!

Just ride more. Have done less miles this year than i've done since getting back into cycling. No motivation, no excitement about getting on the bike(s) and don't seem to have any time.... I think my mood has largely been reflective of my lack of riding and I seem to be in a rut generally. Time to think positive!

For 2013, i'm going to make more of an effort. Lose the spare tyre/tyre depot. Make more time to ride and just get out on two wheels - be that road or mtb. Search for more adventure too and aim to do a bivvy a month.
Unfortunately, that won't be the El and Back anymore in Jan but something local...

Happy New Year everybody.

Well, I'm up to 202 miles so far this month. 5 rides, 19.5 hours, 5170m ascent.
If you're wondering why I've been a bit quiet on here lately, that's why :)

Day off tomorrow, then a bunch of rides mid-week, Friday is getting ready for Elan Back, then pack some more miles in over the weekend. Going to be bit more tricky this week though as I have to go back to work

Good start Ian. At around 250 miles per week and say 5 rides that is 50 miles which even on the road is 3 hours probably. Hard to do with a job and family. Good luck.

So far this year no miles, hope to start back tomorrow after illness.

The most I can ever really justify around family life is an hour after work and then 2-3 on one weekend morning. I'm happy if I do 100-150 miles a week.

Ditto - I was in the Alps over New Year (do skiing miles count? if so then i'm on about 5!!!), then I was ill, now the wife's ill but.....tomorrow I'm taking the car to be serviced (the nearest place is a 2 hour drive away) and they've said it'll be at least 6 hours and so i literally have no choice but to ride all day :D :D :D :D :D

Not sure yet if I'll get my new road frame finished in time to do a big road venture or if it'll be a well overdue next outing for the 29er (i'll be happy with either as they've both new bikes to me!!!).

Am looking forward to kicking off my 2013 milometer.

Fish and veg diet for 3months then low/no carb diet till christmas and before the year ends leave my tyre tracks on Scottish soil then ride the Caledonian sleeper train home.
