clipless or flat?

Hi all, I am looking for a little inspiration, I am struggling to find a set of SPD shoes wide enough for my feet, with this in mind I am looking into the possibility of riding with flat pedals. Any thoughts or experiences out there?

Both me and Stu ride flats with hiking shoes/boots.
Personally find many advantages for being able to move my feet around while riding. Different positions for climbing/descending/Corning etc.... plus for hike-a-bike which hiking shoes/boots can help.

No need for and fancy pedals or shoes either. Good technique means your feet won't leave the pedals.
Personally I'd just try it with what you already have and go from there.

I've got wide feet. Shimano SH CT-80 are the most comfortable fitting shoes I've found (SPD). Really good grippy soles too for HaB.

I have hobbit feet and use XT trail pedals and shimano MT-91 boots and when the weather is nice spd sandals ( watch out for goose poo) I spin at high cadence and find spd helps me look after my knees, with flats I tend to mash.

Some of the polo crowd refit skate or hockey shoes with soles from old SPD shoes. Not sure whether that sort of thing appeals to you but it should work with the preferred bikepacking shoes of your choice. I think there's tutorials on youtube.
