Help...handlebar/shifters idea's please.

Post by ton »

got some tiagra sti shifters/brakes that i love.
fast, and efficient, but they are obviously on drop bars, which i despise.
no drops are wide enough for me.

so i had a idea that i think i have seen in the distant past.
some nice wide flat bars fitted with some curved bar ends, and the sti's fitted onto them.
good idea?

or is there a way that i can keep the shifter and ditch the bars.

idea's greatly appreciated.

Do folk really put brake levers on those bar ends? I can't see how they'd manage the forces without slipping round the bars.

no more force going through there that a big rider pulling on bar ends whilst riding a single speed bike up a offroad climb.
quite a lot less thinking about it.

More surely? If you are braking with hands on the drops then all your weight is transferring onto your hands. Add in some gravity assistance and that end clamp is going to be taking a lot of force. You must let us know how you get on.

I wont be using the drops. they are going to be fitted as close to the clamp as possible. to use the hoods.
the excess below will be chopped off.
I will take a picture when done and let you know how I get on with em.

all a bit frankenbike, but I have a idea in my head that I have seen it before. we will see.

I've seen something similar somewhere but the drop bits were above the bar and then cut down with stis attached. Kinda of bullhorn style but with mtb wide bars
