Soar Y Mynydd... popular destination?
Anyone know why the hell there would have been vehicles turning up here every hour and a half Saturday night? I was hiding in one of the outbuildings near the stream and I'll be honest, it was freaking me out a bit. I figured as of 11pm I there wouldn't be anyone else, but they kept on turning up regularly until about 02:30. It was properly strange.
You really can't get much more in the middle of no-where.

Hunting maybe ... Mike and myself seem to have developed a habit of settling down near to 'Lampers'.
Also very close to some famous 4x4 tracks ... were they 4x4?
EDIT:
Hostel?
You mean Dolgoch?

Yeah, I think they were 4x4.
...and yeah, Dolgoch I guess? It looks like the same building. I don't know what the chapel is and what the hostel is. More to the point, in theory I could have stayed somewhere nice and had a shower instead of huddling in what seemed to be a shed? I mean really?

Dolgoch and Soar y Mynydd are a little way apart. 4x4 use of the track to Tyn Cornel is a possibility, or hunting, or just random up-to-no-goods.

I was here (right next to the locked gate on the bridleway up to Llyn Brianne), whatever this is:
I was most definitely not trespassing in that stone structure on the left.

Did we pass that on one of the bb200s? It was being rented by army types but they let us use the taps.Richard G wrote:I was here (right next to the locked gate on the bridleway up to Llyn Brianne), whatever this is:

You have a link to that route anywhere? Would be interested in seeing where it goes as I've taken a bunch of a routes through the area.

I guess someone might have a Strava link hanging around somewhere if not.

Soar y Mynydd Chapel is a lovely isolated spot. There may have been some sort of motor sport event going on that evening, a night auto-test or similar.
One of my favorite trails runs down the Doethie Valley just to the west of there, not for any technical reasons but just the way it runs past each spur into a new landscape.

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Cheers, yeah that takes a direction I've taken in the past. Quite friendly vs the one on the Cambrian Trail.

Is dogging a popular hobby in Wales??
Re: Soar Y Mynydd... popular destination?
Very, but it's generally done in far more public locations.
