Sometimes, I really do wonder.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Found this seemingly genuine question on FB, I say seemingly as I found it hard to believe that anyone might think along these lines.

"Reserving Pitches" ? Is there a little "rule" about this. You turn up at a wild camp place And you dont want to pitch the tent as its too early etc .Can you just lay out 4 pegs with a tarp or anything to signal you want to return and use that space .Even with a note and time etc . Means you can muck about near by and wait for the right time etc before pitching tent .

I usually carry 4 traffic cones and some course marking tape plus a large sign. Used to carry a couple of plastic picnic chairs and some rope but they were a bit bulky...

You couldn't make it up, could you

Being a bit more serious, this has to be a reference to 'wild camp places'; those secret spots that are to be found referred to on the interweb and which some people may believe to be so commonly used that conflict may arise and that marking your spot is required?

Having said that, on a couple of occasions over the years I've settled down in the dark only to wake early the next morning to find another pitch within a matter of only a few metres away.

So if you turned up to a spot, and it had been 'reserved' somehow.

What would you do if you wanted to stay there? Lets say it involved dismantling some detritus that they had left there to mark their spot

Was the person who posted German by any chance? Come to think of it they wouldn't be, they would do it without even thinking about it. .

I worked on a campsite in Northern Spain for a couple of years. About once a month or so after the German person nominated for the day to bag all the best loungers with towels had done his stuff someone would come along and throw all the towels in the pool. Turned out to be a 70 year old campsite cleaning lady. She got a bollocking but wasn't sacked because she was such a well liked character. :-bd .

Can we choose what kind of itch we get? Are we talking midges, or nettles, or something else completely?
