are these the perfect bike packing shoes

First things first, waterproof and cycling is almost impossible. The closest I have got to the perfect bikepacking shoes is the 5:10 approach shoes in Goretex... Had them imported by BananaFingers and theyve done a good job so far. Only problem is that when water does manage to start seeping in through the tops, it doesnt drain out and its always interesting trying to dry them out once back home as theyre literally like boats!

Here's the none goretex version thats easily available in the UK and may be easier to drain!

Pros: stiff as you need for putting the power down and the sticky sole means its easy to hike a bike.

Cons: you have to get the knack of tying the laces carefully to make sure they don't becoke undone...

I try to focus on function over form (I even own a Lauf, so generally agnostic about aesthetics), however... these look 'special'!

Not sure on how it's affixed but I reckon that fancy upper is going to break away from the bottom bit at some point.

Based on experience I'd probably manage to do it within a year.

Fine all year round (not used in snow) with good ankle protection. The only niggle I had was that I needed TWO sizes larger than normal, as they're sized by the sole and have a lot of padding / insulation.

A stiff sole and hike-a-bike just don't go together. I get shivers down my spine every time those two words are together....I never want shin splint ever again, it was the worse pain I've ever suffered (Highland Trail 2015) and took me a long time to recover from. Soft flexible shoes for me. I'm happy to use my Giro Rumble VR's. I've also just bought a pair of Rimes to see what all the fuss is about as well.

Doesn't bother me. I don't ride flats and don't like the feel of soft SPD shoes on the bike. I've been riding (and sometimes walking) in a pair of Giro VR90's all summer, no problems at all.
