Just when you thought things couldn't get any weirder.

Lowriders have been around for a long time, there's quite a big scene out there with magazines, clubs, etc.

I don't know for sure but I'm taking a bet that Detroit is quite flat?

vaguely exciting, really like when people just do things like that because its what they like. There are a few folk about Manchester who do similar but with bug sound systems blaring out reggae. Hazy folk most of the time.... but still, doing what they love.

The thing I find most fascinating is the engineering behind it.
Most if not all those bikes have been handcrafted its not the sort of stuff you can buy off the shelf (?).
Have you seen the number of spokes some of those wheels are fitted with?
Just think of the bag carrying possibilities of ape hanger bars.
I love those american motorcycle builds where what looks like a bunch of tattooed, portly, mouth breathers bend shape and form metal into exquisite shapes and forms using traditional methods and old bits of machinery. A bit like Morgan on acid. :|
I dont necessarily like the finished item but I enjoy seeing the skills behind it.

Yeah, apparently Detriot has a burgening small machine shop/DIY maker thing, I guess because of the huge number of unemployed auto workers, but there's quite a lot of community maker hubs etc... :)

Perhaps brexit will cause a resurgence of small machine shops and people making things. Our farmers market now has a place for getting things repaired instead of being discarded.

There's a UK scene, a local shop builds and sells them at Rockingham Speedway, they have just been to a cruiser weekend rally organisers by these suppliers in Bournemouth. http://www.forgecustomcycles.com/uk-sup ... bikes.html

Some great pictures of finished builds on https://www.facebook.com/Corbycruisers/ too.

Want one as a pub bike

Wasn't ignoring you my computer went chest up and only just getting it back to anywhere near functioning.

Short answer is I don't know as haven't availed myself of the service but will check it out and report back.
Its only a once a month market so may take some time.
The blurb says bring along household items for repair which includes electrical items.
How the costing works I don't know and exactly what is covered and how the test certificating works don't know.
Best I can do at present.

Thanks Mariner. Quite interested in how this works - more from the "fixer" side of things if you get my drift
