This is an unfinished project which was on its way to being setup with a triple chainset and hydro disk brakes, for rough stuff touring.

54cm frame
Triple chainset with Shimano and Blackburn chainrings
11-30 cassette
XT long arm rear mech
TRP hydro cable pull disk brakes

Supplied, but you’ll need to fit:
TRP cables and disk pads (unopened pack)
3 speed tiagra brake leaver

You’ll need a 3 speed front Derailleur
Alternatively, I’ll include the 2 speed tiagra chainset if you prefer the original set up.

i have this bike. well, not this exact one, but one from the same year. I cannot rate this bike highly enough. it is heavy, yes but beautiful.

Crums, yes it is heavy! I've gone from a 1.5kg frame and a 500ish grams fork, to a 2.5kg frame and 830gram fork! It's noticeable!

What's particularly special about the year?

Admittedly it rides reasonably well, I guess because it’s a similar geometry and all my old components, as it’s not rotating weight. I can feel the higher CoG thought, and it lacks a few modern things like a decent size headset (fortunately had a spare bearing to replace dead one on it!), PM brake carriers and there’s very little heel clearance on the chainstays. I expect this will just keep on plodding though. I’ve sprayed all the internal cavities with anti-corrosion wax, in hindsight this was probably unnecessary as there’s so much material on it anyway, it’s added to the weight and made a mess of the garage floor as it kept oozing out when I was building it!

The colour/finish, to me. Just personal stuff : )

They weren't light - they passed MTB CEN since at the time a disc CX-tourer bike was a bit of a misfit in the CEN classifications, wasn't a road or MTB bike and wasn't intended for 'city and trekking' light use. So we tested it to MTB standard. Maybe it was overbuilt. Not seen many (any?) broken. I thought my 58 back then was 5lbs/2.25kg... 2.5kg though, is it full of mud?

I didn't know you were involved in this James. It is genuinely a wonder and as you say, bulletproof. I have absolutely battered it in CX guise and enjoyed it on all day 100+ milers in road form.

I can't wait til the kids are a bit older and we can f*ck off touring on it.
